Question about Hotpoint  21.8 Cu. Ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Hotpoint Top freezer model#RTW162TRW-1

The thermostat is always set at "5". I noticed that the freezer was not as cold as it should be. So I turned it up to "6" to see if it cut in. It did, but it doesn't seem to cut in unless I turn up. Do I need to replace thermostat?

You shoulnt have to set the controls colder the 50% like 3 1/2 out of 7 / there are two controls one is in the freezer or should i say it sences freezer temp. this control actuly turns the compresor on and off the second is more a damper witch allows more or less are to be sent from the freezer to the cooler or bottom cabinet. Many many times i have seen people overfill there freezers witch causes similer troubles. the control is siply a switch that works on a presuized gas bellows. as the temp reduses in the bellow do to low tep the control opens. as it increases with heat the switch closes. turning the contol colder simply changes the values. most control fale when the will not shut off or will not turn on . veary rarely in between. your fride is also frost free and the defrost system may be in trouble , this will cause ice buid up in the freezer coil cousing a lack of air flow . so as you can see there is more involed then the turn of a nobe. to test the defrost system simple turn the timer into defrost or youl here it click / should be lokated in the top of the food copartment. see if the defrost ends within 1/2 hour . if not replase the timer.... hope this helped

Not Cooling properly...The dial at bottom left side of fridge---if I turn it will it help in cooling fridger more??

First the levels should never be set to the highest level? as this only stresses the compressor and runs to much cold air in only 1 compartment. If u have a cooling problem I would check my thermistors fridge and freezer side but check at very cold temperature not at room temperature. and check for continuity and for the OHMS rating as well according to ur schematic. also check ur cold control thermostat. and air flow control damper

What temperature should i have my top half fridge of my hotpoint fridge/ freezer as it is too cold and everything is freezing

A good setting is in the middle of the thermostat range. For example, if you have numbers from 1 to 9, 5 would be a good number. If this setting continues to freeze, look for a bad thermostat or temperature thermistor.

Diverter valve on Hotpoint FFA70 recieves no power, Fridge ok

Bonjour..Your system check (hot cold) is correct. Generally all new refrig/freezers cool only the freezer & bleed cold air off to cool the refrigerator. Most diverter/airflow dampers I have seen are mechanically operated for simplicity & to keep costs down. I would unload freezer and pull the panel off where you see the fan mounted. Go slow, don't drop any screws. You may not get them back. Look at the drain pan under the evap. coil. If it has ice that is built up in layers. Suspect the defrost termination thermostat. If the evap coil is clogged with heavy frost, suspect 1 the defrost timer and 2 the defrost heaters mounted on the evap. coil. Let me know how you make out.

The freezer works but the refigerator section does not. When you turn the temp switch for the refrigerator it will turn off the freezer also.

Hotpoint CTF15ELD top freezer refrigerator - freezer O.K. refrig too warm

It's likely the door was inadvertently left open, and the cold air passages from the freezer have built up enough ice that the cold air from the freezer has no way to enter the refrigerator. Check the cealing of the refrigerator. If you can see or feel ice in the passages between the freezer and fridge, you can probably solve the problem by finding a safe temporary home for your food, and leaving the refrigerator unplugged overnight.
