Need the driver

Computer does not recognize the device when plugged into USB port. old dell laptop running vista 32 bit all updates. No port for memory card reader.

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2011

I forgot to mention that I have the manual and that the the software disk that came with the camera installed successfully and that even though it says the program will run on vista, my version got updated by windows to SP4 vista which is near to Windows 7. I would hate to have to reformat and reinstall the basic version of vista just to run the camera. My last computer which crashed had Vista and couldn't download through a USB cable either but it had a card reader. I'm buying a new computer soon but wanted to use the camera in the meantime.

Hello Wally,

I am not sure about the compatibility issues regarding vista and your software. BUT, If you do have a USB then that means you can use a portable memory card reader. It is always easier to transfer files via USB (with card reader) than by connecting the camera and using a specific software.

Plus, portable memory card readers are very cheap and very useful!

Canon imageclass d880 info

What OS is the Vaio running? Canon has drivers for the 32-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. The Windows 7 driver may work with Windows 8 32-bit in the compatibility mode. However, most computers with Vista and later versions of Windows have the 64-bit OS; the exception are some machines that came with 2 GB or less of memory when new. Canon did not create a 64-bit driver for the imageCLASS D880. To check your OS version, go to the System Control Panel. (XP, Vista and Windows 7: Start > Control Panel (in the right hand column) > System and Security > System. In Windows 8: press the Windows key + X and do the same steps.) Then read the version information, if x64 is included then the 32-bit drivers won't work.

If you do have the correct driver installed for your OS, try swapping your data cable and changing the USB port, if in use. Do not use a USB hub but a direct connection to the computer. Check the device manager to make sure that there are no problems with the hardware drivers. (As above, go to the control panel. Then either in Hardware or System and Security choose the Device Manager. From the Windows key+X, just choose the Device Manager.) Expand the section for the type of port you are using and look for a triangle with a red X or yellow exclamation point. Try updating or uninstalling the driver and then letting the correct driver load when you reboot the computer. (Check with Sony for the driver.)

Next try uninstalling the printer and removing the data cable from your computer. Then install the driver from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/office/imageclass_copiers/imageclass_d880/imageclass_d880#DriversAndSoftware . Then connect the printer to the computer when prompted to do so. Failure to install the Canon software first can interfere with the installation of the correct driver.

I hope this helps.

The USB port is damaged, or missing the driver for that port, check device manager.

HP Laserjet 1012 printer not recognized

I really don't understand your problem as you stated it.!!
Your printer worked on your old system.. What was your old system ?? XP, XP Pro., 32 bit or 64 or VISTA. VISTA home 32 or 64.
If you are having problems installing the printer, it is not the fault of the Manf., you may not be loading the correct drivers.
First, check your device manager and see if the printer is being seen. Next, go to your printer icon and remove any printers installed.
Next, disconnect the printer from the unit and reboot.
Now, you have a unit free of any printer entries.
Find the software for you printer and if it is the correct version software for your printer, install it.
During the installation the software should tell you to plug in the device to a USB port.
Make sure the port you are using is the same as you have used before, as you may not have the support needed with another USB port. example,
port in the front may be a USB 1 port, the USB ports in the rear may support USB2 devices.
Next, if the software has loaded correctly and you have had no problems during the installation, you should be able to run your printer.
You should be able to find the correct drivers for your printer @ hp.com
I hope this has helped you !!!
