SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SOURCE: Camera reading memory card error, cannot get it to work. Tried removeing the card and replacing batteries. Checked and it is not locked.

try formatting the card once on a pc and then plug it in your camera....if that does not help either, you'll have to try a different card.

SOURCE: camera stating memory card locked

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the switch on the side of the card, or the switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

I turn on the camera and it states' memory card error'. I can't take a picture or view the pictures on the card.

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). My Kodak EasyShare V705 keeps telling me that the memory card is protected and to reset switch on memory card. How do I do this?

Hi,

To remove the write protect lock, take the memory card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab up to unlock it, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

On the side of the SD card there is a little switch for locking the memory card to prevent erasure or writing. Make sure it is not locked. After that try a smaller size card. After that junk it.
