My boyfriend was having the exact same problem. He was able to use it as a media server, but, no games would play at all. Turns out that the disc drive is broken. It isn't reading discs at all.
the disc drive on the xbox 360 has a key that matches it to the motherboard. If the key isn't there, or is incorrect, the xbox won't read games. If you (hopefully) still have the original drive, you might be able to get someone to help you with jungleflasher to copy the key over. Good luck!
I hope you mean you fitted a new DVD drive into your console. All games are in DVD format and if the replacement drive can not read and detect dual layer DVD's then they will not be able to see any of the games you put in.
One. Make sure the bar code on the band on the inner ring is perfectley clean and dusted. Two blow into the disc drive to make sure there is no dust on the laser. Three, get a professional to look at it such as a person at Game or at Gamestation. Four, try replacing the copy (NOT RECOMMENDED YOU COULD WASTE MONEY)
Hi,
You,ll need to replace The DVD Rom Drive.
The Standard/Original Xbox. only has a single laser unit. which doubles up as a cd/dvd reader. if it,s not reading xbox games, but playing cds. the laser isn,t powering up enough to read the dvd format/games.
Eject the DVD Tray. If it,s perfectly arched shape in the centre. then it,s a thomson drive. if the arch is slightly rounder it,s philips dvd drive. if it has 2 holes left/right in the drive drawer, it,s a samsung. You should have a straight swap over with the drive, it,s only the hard-drive that is eeprom locked to the motherboard.
unlike the 360 which is eeprom locked to the dvd.
try a disk head cleaner first of all.
are you tring to play just xbox games or are they xbox 360 games because if they are just xbxo games you just need to go to the nearest gamestop and ask them to show you where you can buy a backwards comptiablity disc and the upload the software on to your xbox 360
