The printer will have one of two cables , either it is a USB cable , or an LPT cable

Most printers these days plug into a USB port. Small rectangular hole about 1/2" across. Usually at the back of the computer, but increasingly common at the front. On laptops, often at the side.
Back in the old days, they used a parallel port: a 25 pin socket round the back.

If you've got a parallel port printer and no parallel port on your machine, you can get a USB-Parallel adapter quite cheaply.

Typically, your computer will set a printer offline when it can't talk to it, so we do the above testing first...
If your printer is indeed on, and it's connected to the computer, there are things to try:
change connection wire.
change which port it's connected to on the computer
test on another computer

How to print to Canon ImagePASS-M2 (connected to iR105) from Windows computer

If you connected it directly to a Windows computer, then, on that computer, "share" that printer, so that any computer that can connect to that computer can also access that printer.
You probably need to download software from Canon's web-site and install it on each computer that wants to print to that printer/copier.

Connecting to printer through network

What operating system are you using? If it is xp it is very easy. Right click on your printer on x computer and click sharing and share it with an easy name like HP Laser, then on y computer open run command by going to start and run and in there you will type in \\xcomputer name which you can get by right clicking on my computer on x computer and choose computer name. once this is typed in run on y computer press ok and you will get window with some shared folders and also a printer. Just double click on printer and it will ask you to install drivers and it will connect but your x computer has to be on to be able to print from y computer.Same principle with 2 vista computers. If one is vista and one is xp this might be little more involved. Hope this helps.

No connection There is no computer connection.

Hello !

Give this a try;

Go to Printers and Faxes and delete your printer icon.

Disconnect the USB cable.

Restart your computer.

Reconnect the USB to your computer.

Your computer should see your printer. If it does not, move the USB cable to another port on your computer. It's also possible that your USB cable is faulty - replace the cable.

Install the printer driver.

Hope that helps.

Sharing 5300 with more than one computer

You can do this by using a router. If your home lan is wired then you would connect all computers to the ethernet ports on the router. Run the usb cable from the printer to the the computer. Turn on all computers you wish to be in the network as well as the printer & any modem you use to connect to your isp. Connect one computer to the internet. Start running the network wizard on each computer, starting with the one connected to the internet. When you have finished the wizard on all computers you might need to install the printer driver on all the other computers. You should now be able to print from any computer connected to your network. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
