Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-29LS35 29" TV
In the middle of watching a program the picture transfers out to the blank video screen. It continues to do this at all times. Have unplugged the TV to clear the problem and it still exists. Any suggestions. Thanks.
When you write 'blank,' is there any trace of light from the screen or is it totally black?
If it is black, then you likely have no high voltage and the fault would lie in the horizontal sweep section where the HV for the CRT is produced among others. This can vary a lot in cost of repair since it can require the replacement of a fairly expensive transistor and the HV transformer called a flyback; the latter may not be readily available.
If it still has some dim, gray illumination, the HV section is still working but the video and audio paths are interrupted.
If you have other devices such as a VCR/DVD player attached, these can interrupt the signal if they are installed in a conventional manner. If you do, make the most direct connection possible by connecting your cable box/outlet or satellite receiver directly to the TV's input without looping through the other devices.
What you can also do (without giving you too much hope) is disconnect and reconnect all of the cables going to the set in the back. Sometimes a coaxial cable will just stop contacting and removing and reconnecting them wipes the contact surfaces.
