Devices: All projection TV's (HD or analog), especially Samsung
If its a Samsung HCN653W (or similar model), the first thing to try is the menu option named "Magic Focus", which tunes the set's focus.
Otherwise, it sounds like a job for
a convergence. Perform a convergence procedure on your TV, and if the
problem recurs within a few days/weeks, then your TV's 'convergence
amplifier' board (aka "convergence amp board") is starting to fail. This board may fail completely, in which case, your convergence procedure will fail to improve the picture. A "convergence procedure" can be performed entirely by just using the appropriate setup menu option and your remote control. This
board may partially fail, in which case your convergence procedure will
properly converge the Red, Blue, Green colors on just part of the
screen, whereas a properly functioning convergence amp board will allow
complete convergence of the colors across the entire screen. Your TV's convergence procedure instructions will be found in your TV's Owners Manual. At
least one Projection TV manufacturer recommends that the consumer
perform a convergence procedure every 30 days, but most TV owners find
that excessive, and might only do one when (a) there's an evident color
convergence problem in any part of the picture, or (b) once every 3-6
months. How-to video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=esk4nYZKFcg how-to instructions: www.ehow.com/how_2034880_perform-convergence--tv.html
cost to you: $zero.
If the convergence amp board is bad, cost for a service call would be $300 (USD) plus $100 for a new board plus 50% markup on parts = about $450 (USD) Cost to order a new board online: about $100 (USD) + shipping + sales tax. Alternatively,
if you can solder/desolder STK's (Power Amplifier Integrated Circuits),
one can repair a convergence amp board for as little as $30 (USD) or so.
Thats a convergence issue which is caused by the convergence amp board needing repair. The samsungs with the P55A chassis such as your model usually require replacing the convergence amp board which is a simple unplug old board and plug in the new one repair. You can get the convergence amp board for your model from www.tvcircuitboards.com
Thats usually indicating the ICs have failed. Usually with that model its best to replace the board rather than try replacing the individual components as ther are several 3.9 ohm resistors that will need to be checked and possibly replaced along with both ICs. www.tvcircuitboards.com should have the replacement board for your model if you need one.
Hello,
Do not replace whole convergence board.Because convergence data stored in old board cannot transfered to your new board.Means in your new board there is no convergence data.Unless you have the service manual and know how to get service menu.
I believe if you have convergence problem one of your IC (STK) is bad along with couple of small
Value resistance.
you dont need new CRTs (tubes) you need either the convergence Board or the convergence power supply board depending on the symptoms. If its only one color that is out of alignment its most likely the convergence board. If all the colors are out of alignment you need the convergence power supply board. you can get whichever one you need at the following link as they have both of those circuit boards and have free shipping. Heres the link, http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
If the new sub board didnt fix the problem you will need a new convergence board as the sub deflection boards with the ICs only powers the convergence board. thats a complete seperate board. Let me know if you need more assistance.
First if the auto convergence isnt working you need new Ics . two of them.I am part owner of a site that sells the ICs and provide free tech support by way of online instant messaging and we include detailed instructions on how to do the repair yourself. We also have a service where you can send your board to us and we will install new ICs and all new Convergence resistors and ship the board back to you. Or we sell remanufactured boards. I would recomend replacing the two ICs as that would be the cheapest rout the ICs arent exspensive , but will require de-soldering and soldering in the new ones. Here is alink to the site. You can go and send them a request for information by clicking on the contact us link in the lower left info box. Someone will get back with you quickly just leave your model number and what you would like info on.
The actual Convergence amp ICs not located on the convergence board are probaly what killed the origional convergence module, and likewise has killed the new board. You will need to change the convergence ICs first then replace the convergence module.
I would recommend getting the service manual . I can post a link if you would like.
Yes the board can be replaced, but you may also need to do some touchup alighnment to the convergence, and maybe need to reprogram the magic focus or whatever the ato convergence is called on your set, if it has that feature, Good Luck
