Picture Blacks Out, Sounds Stays On

My Aquos LC-32D4OU TV works fine until suddenly the picture blacks out while the sound continues to play. Sometimes the problem is solved by turning the TV on or off or disconnecting it from the power source for several minutes. On the internet, I note that others have this problem and some have solved it by replacing the screws in the back of the TV control panel. Which screws I do not know and I'm wondering if Sharp should fix this free of charge since it seems to be a defect with their product (the tv is no longer on warranty). Can you help?

The TV repairman changed the screws in the back of the TV. He said the original model screws do not hinge in properly, get loose, and therefore causes the blackout program. This was done at no cost after I complained to the main office even though the TV is not covered under warranty. It's now 2 weeks and the TV works perfectly with no problems whatsoever.

If you are having the same problem (it sounds fairly common), insist that it is fixed for free. I'm very happy that I did.

Where there is smoke there is fire and Sharp is well aware of this defective circuit boards installed in our LC-32D40U TV's.
I watched the Texas Tech Oklahoma State game great picture as usual. Sunday morning turned on the TV and no picture. The sound works fine if you get lucky enough to find the the right settings. At this point I can't see what my settings are and of course I had to press every button on the remote and the TV at least a dozen times each. For me that explains why I thought I had a multitude of malfunctions. I will be on Sharp like a chicken on a June bug as soon as they arrive at for work in the morning.

I spoke to several representatives from Sharp and ultimately they are sending a repair person to take care of this problem at no charge. They realize that this is a problem enountered by several people who own this TV. Hopefully, the repair service will be here in the next day or two.

Picture goes off..sound stays on

Make sure the cooling to the TV is not blocked. It is on all the time even when off. Some of the spply cucuits remain on continuously. try uplugging the unit. Let it cool. If it is an older TV the back lighting may be dieing, then it is Tech. time

My Sharpe Aquos TV screen stays black even when switched on!

Call up Sharp, if you are part of the AQUOS Advantage Program, you get FREE in home service along with the repairs for it.

They'll give you a case number, set you up with a technician and BAM!
I called on a Wednesday and got an appt for that Saturday for the technician to come to my house.

I doubted Sharp alot less after that.

Sharp Aquos LC-32D4OU

Comment by Guest, posted on Oct 25, 2008My Aquos has the same problem. I'm not sure how I discovered this, but when I lean the TV forward and hit the power button it will turn on every time. If the screen blacks out and I don't lean it forward when I hit the power button, the screen will just remain blank. It is very weird, but at least repeatable.

- Thank you, Guest. That did it. It definitely seems to be a problem with the TV. Tilting it and hitting the power button helped me get the video back.
