Home 2.4 works on my XP but not on my Vista !!!!

  • Anonymous Nov 15, 2008

In my Vista I have the same problem!

  • Anonymous Nov 21, 2008

Same problem. Just keep redownloading and installing with no luck. Used a decent uninstaller to remove all registry history and files but no different. I've just bought this TomTom and was really pleased untill this rediculous merry go round. Why release an update that clearly doesn't work?

  • joesoef Nov 23, 2008

installed the update to 2.4 and gotr the same error message...
    Anybody has a solution?

Install directly on to C disk not into program files - it should help.

I had the common problem of trying to install TomTom Home 2.6.4.1641 on Windows Vista Home Premium and received the error "TomTomHomeRunTime.exe failed with error 0" when tring to start the application. I tried various combinations of re-downloading, re-installing, uninstalling/re-booting/re-installing and gave up. After reading various forums on the internet I came across the suggestion of installing to a different location on the hard drive instead of the default location of "C:\Program Files\TomTom Home 2". I changed the path to "C:\TomTom Home 2" during installation and the application started straight away. I suspect this is a registry problem and changing the path allowed the app to find the right files and registry settings.

Yep - confirmed with someone else's post. Installing the software onto the c :\ folder not into C:\program files\ resolved the issue!!. Amazing!!

OK, I have solved this problem on my own computer! I unistalled the Ver 2.7 Home then cleaned out any files/directories with the name Tomtomhome or TomTom. Then I rebooted. Then I reinstalled the new version of Tomtomhome but this time, instead of checking the box that asks if you want to launch Tomtomhome I DID NOT! When I then tried to launch from START/ALL PROGRAMS, it did something different than any other install. It was midnight so I left it running and when I awoke....I had a Contratulations window open. I then launched TomTomHome and voila! It worked.

So, I believe that if you uncheck the launch button...and then let it run for hours if need be...that's what solved it for me!

Unable to update Tom Tom in windows vista keep getting error 1060 any solutions?

perform the following:
type the following three lines in to the Command window:

%SystemDrive%
cd "%ProgramFiles%\TomTom HOME 2"
xulrunner\HOMERuntime.exe -app xul\application.ini

To avoid having to type these lines every time you start HOME:

Right-click your desktop and choose New > Text Document - enter the commands provided above and then save the file as RunTTH.bat
copy this file to the TomTom HOME 2 folder in C:\Program Files (you will require Administrator rights to do this)
in the Start menu, right click on the TomTom HOME 2 icon.
select Properties
in Target, change "C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\TomTomHOME.exe" to "C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\RunTTH.bat”

The icon will change and HOME 2 should now run normally on your PC.
Please note that links like "Send to TomTom device" or "Add to TomTom" won't work because they rely on TomTomHOME.exe (which this workaround by-passes).
A full fix for this error will be implemented in a future HOME update.

NOTE: for 64 bit Vista change the second line of code to:

cd "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\TomTom HOME 2"

check to see whether secondary login service is disabled via services.msc - if it is set it to manual and start it. Problems sould go away - if not unistall and reinstall tomtomHome with this service started.

Re: my tomtom go 920 I have connected my tomtom My pc keeps telling me to go to your home support in order to reinstall the home programme. The reason is error 0: Process failed to start up correctly....

There was an old Tom Tom Home (1.5 I think) and it is now Tom Tom HOME 2. If the icon has a little inward-facing arrow on the left-hand, lower corner then it is only a shortcut and you can safely delete them. You can always start the program by using Start, All Programs, Tom Tom etc.

Create a Restore point so you can undo the following changes and call it something like 'Pre Tom Tom HOME 2 update'.

Go to this web page:

http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87

and download the Windows version of Tom Tom HOME 2 and install the software. Tell the installing software to remove the old version of Tom Tom HOME - you won't need that any more.

Start up Tom Tom HOME 2 from the new shortcut icon that will now be on your Desktop and it should work unless you have an addition problem with your PC.

If it all goes wrong Restore your computer back to the Restore point you created above and you are back to where you started before you did anything.

On installing tomtom home on my computer this message comes up homeruntime.exefailed with error 0 process failed to start up correctly

These instructions worked for me with WinXP SP3, how they fair for Vista I can't say.
-------------------------------------------------------

To solve any issues with Connecting to TomTom Home and/or using the 'Operate my device' feature of TomTom, please do the following:-

STEP 1 Uninstall TomTom Home

- Disconnect your TomTom from your computer.
- Click on Start -> All Programs -> TomTom
- Uninstall All versions of TomTom Home from your PC
- Once Uninstalled, Open 'My Computer'.
- Right click on your 'C' drive and click on 'Search'
- in the boxes below where it says 'All or part of the filename', type 'Navcore' in this box.
- Further down, click on 'More Advanced Options'
- Make sure 'Search System Folders' and 'Search Hidden Files and Folders' are ticked.
- Click on Search

When the search has completed. Delete any files or folders that are found in the search results. Once complete, we need to remove any items on your PC that refer to TomTom, to do this:-

- Open 'My Computer'.
- Right click on your 'C' drive and click on 'Search'
- in the boxes below where it says 'All or part of the filename', type 'TomTom' in this box.
- Further down, click on 'More Advanced Options'
- Make sure 'Search System Folders' and 'Search Hidden Files and Folders' are ticked.
- Click on Search

When the search has completed. Delete any files or folders that are found in the search results.

Once done, reboot your PC.

STEP 2 Perform Some PC Maintenance.

- Empty your Recycle Bin, on your desktop, right click on the recycle bin and choose 'Empty'.

Note: I chose not to perform the Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation, I didn't think that it was a necessary step, but perhaps I am wrong.

- Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools
- Do a Disk Cleanup, in the disk cleanup options, make sure all the items are ticked. You will see this after it has analyzed your PC.
- Once finished, do a Disk Defragment.
- When the Disk Defragment has finished, please reboot your computer.

These procedures can take a while to complete, depending on the status of your computer.

STEP 3 Install TomTom Home 2.3

- Click on http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/app...2winlatest.exe
- You will now be prompted to download and install TomTom Home 2.3
- Once Installed, please reboot your PC

STEP 4 Open TomTom Home

- Open TomTom Home without the device connected. Do you get any error messages at this point?
- Connect your TomTom to one of the USB ports on the back of your PC
- Switch the TomTom on. Do you get any error messages at this point when you open TomTom Home?

--------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully these steps should resolve a majority of the issues encountered when starting TomTom Home and getting the "HOMEruntime.exe failed with error 0: Process failed to start up correctly" error message.

Regards.

"I tried to upgrade my version to 2.3 After downloading and installing I get an error message. "HOMERuntime.exe failed to start. Error 0: Tom Tom has no solution I tried reinstaling the old version and now I gat the same error"

I've been having this very same problem for weeks now and resolved tonight to fix it! After much searching around on the WWW, I found the answer on a French site (luckily I understand French). Like you, I'd uninstalled and reinstalled around 4 times without success and still rec'd the error msg. emot-cheering.gif
So, uninstall the existing program. Reinstall again -BUT this time install it DIRECTLY to the C: drive not in 'programs'. I think you will find it then works. Mine does and I hope yours does too
