Question about Black & Decker String Trimmer Cordless 12" 18V

B&D 18V cordless grasshog: Autofeed won't stop

The autofeed feature on my B&D 18V cordless grasshog works a bit too well: the line feeds out constantly, whether it needs to or not. I've looked at all of the places on the unit I can get to easily and nothing looks broken. The white lever under the cord spool is okay.

Thoughts?

I have the same problem. The autofeed on my cordless grasshog will not stop releasing the string. And the white lever looks OK. What can I do?

SOURCE: 18v cordless string trimmer will not stop feeding line

Some of the trimmers recommend a certain size line, if you have one of these that let line out as needed, the speed at which the trimmer cuts will let out line as needed. If you have too small of line the drag for the friction let-out you will spoll all the line out. Make sure the line is the right size, They come in alot of sizes, anywhere from .060" to .125" line thickness so make sure you have the right size line!

SOURCE: Line gets tangled in gear under feed spool

Problem solved. We noticed something was broken off a small part inside the spool holder. My husband took it to the local hardware store, and one of the employees gave him the part from a trimmer that had been returned.

SOURCE: I need directions to replace string on black and

Go to home depot. look at the floor model and the replacement spools they sell there. Reverse engineer the stringing process or but a pre-loaded spool.
Otherwise,
1. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the head of the unit to remove the spool cover.
2. remove spool.
3. place end of string in small hole in center ring of spool.
4. wide spool with string in the direction of the arrows printed on the spool. DO NOT OVERLOAD!.
5. snap string into notch on spool and cut string leaving 6" exposed.
6. thread 6" of string through hole in side of unit head, replace spool, and replace cover.
7. go cut grass.

How do I let out more line on my trimmer?

Most heads now have the autofeed bump cap, just tap the head on the floor while strimming.

Grasshog trimmer line wont stop coming out and it won't break off

Rewind your string in the opposite direction than it is wound now.
If it is wound in the wrong direction it will cause the line to continue to feed out.
Good Luck, I hope this helped
