How to replace a intel processor in a acer emachine e525

If you don't have computer experience then I seriously recommend you take it to a professional shop to have the work carried out.

If you DO have experience with computer hardware then I'd look for a disassembly manual for another laptop and work from there. All laptops are basically the same inside. The fun/tricky part is getting "inside" them.
If you intend to replace the CPU then prepare yourself with new thermal compound, also get yourself high quality compound like Artic silver. You also need the cleaning fluids to properly prepare the processor and heatsink combo. You can't just use what is already there as it will not do an efficient job
There is really good tutorials on the web for applying the thermal compound.
It's also really easy to identify the CPU once you have access to the inside of your laptop. It's the thing that is attached to the heatsink.

Socket 478 3 GHz Intel CPU overheating

Simply open/unlock the clips and pull the heatsink off. Then you will need to remove the termal compound from both on top of the CPU and from the bottom of the heatsink. Papertowel + rubbing alcohol works well. Then you will need to re-apply thermal compound before reseating the heatsink/fan.

You need to replace the fan. Measure the fan you have now and buy one the same diameter. Then remove the old fan and put in the new fan.

In case this doesn't show...Black is Ground and Yellow is +12VDC.

Not sure if it will work w/o a Sense (Green) and Control (Blue) line though.

Processor slowing down?

On the system properties you will able to check your processor speed and your memory, it is possible that the other description is referring to your memory or Ram.

You can use other program like aida32 to check your computer spec or you can try the steps below.

To check the CPU speed, from the Start menu, select Run... , then enter msinfo32 .

You can also type DXDIAG then enter.

P4 ugrade required

Sadly you wont find any 1066Mhz FSB processors for the Socket 478. The best you can find is the 3.4Ghz with 800Mhz FSB. It might be cheaper and also better value for you to get a Socket 775 based motherboard and Core2 Duo processor. The value range E2160/2180 processors or the E4300/4400 processors have been tested to be even faster than the Socket 775 Pentium Dual 3.4Ghz and they also use less power.
