Canon MX310 Printer - How to reset to factory settings?
How do I reset my printer to original factory specifications? Ans/or delete ALL transmission reports stored in memory? I just installed a new black in cartridge and I cannot print the documents I need to print because the printer is printing fax transmission reports non-stop and wasting my ink.... Tks, Zerna

The only reason to call the phone company is if you're not getting a dial tone on that line. Otherwise, have you shut down the printer and tried to reset it to factory defaults. To do that, follow the instructions below:
1 Switch the Canon MX310 off using the "Power" button, then push the "Stop/Reset" button on the control panel. Hold the button down for about five seconds.
2 Push the "Power" button while holding "Stop/Reset." Hold down both buttons for five seconds.
3 Release "Stop/Reset" while holding down the "Power" button.
4 Push "Stop/Reset" twice while continuing to hold the "Power" button. Release the "Power" button. The power light will turn green.
5 Once the light is steady green, push "Stop/Reset." Wait about three seconds and push it again. Wait three more seconds and push it one final time, for a total of three times. The power light will turn orange.
6 Push the "Power" button, then lift the MX310 cover open.
7 Remove both ink cartridges and wait 10 seconds. Replace the cartridges and close the MX310 cover. Wait 30 seconds.
8 Push the "Power" button. Wait a few seconds to allow the printer to fully power down, then switch the Canon MX310 back on using the "Power" button.
Try to remember how you originally installed it: USB or direct...try to hook it up the same way...No? Well, go to control panel ( I prefer classic view) and un-install the printer...disconnect it from computer...unplug from outlet, wait a couple minutes and then plug back into outlet(this allows it to reset to its defaults)...re-connect to computer and install with software and follow instructions.
First try to press the reset button for 5 sec or more and see if the memory will reset this way .. If not ..look in the menu for memory and see if it has reset /delete feature on the memory options ..if not..open the front door to get into the maintenance mode..and after that look for memory reset .. Another way to reset a canon printer is as follows : http://www.ehow.com/how_6833747_reset-ink-mx310.html
do you use genuine canon replacement cartridge or OEM cartridge? if it is OEM or refilled one there is a problem however there is a trick to reset the cartridge chip, otherwise you cant use it.If it is an original canon it should not be a problem at all..Regards
Hi, The first thing you need to do is to go into your Start Menu and select Printer and Faxes and delete any printers you don't use or have and to delete any instances of the 5100 and the MX310. Now go into your Start Menu again and select all programs and uninstall any programs linked to printers you don't have or use, and also the 5100 and the MX310. Now restart your computer. Once your computer is restarted use the CD that came with your printer to re-install the drivers and software. Plug your printer into your computer and Windows should install your printer. If you don't have the original CD I have included a link to the drivers and manuals online for you to download. I hope this solves your problem. Good luck!
I should imagine the firmware has stored incorrectly onto the IC chip (memory) within the printer, it is normally possible to just replace this chip, and then reinstall the firmware onto a blank chip, or contact CANON and ask them if yuu can be a pre programmed chip for your specific printer, hope this helps
Open the printer and check all the rubber wheels. Sometimes due a small piece of paper the sensor is sending a signal. Use a dust cleanner (air pressure or gas buttane) to clean the printer. Reset the printer to factory settings and try again.
