Depending on which model you have there is a fan limit switch or a fan control or pc board that will bring the fan on once the furnace warms up some so that it doesn't blow cool air. This could be malfunctioning or the blower it;s self is malfunctioning which could be a fan relay, compasitor, or the blower motor it's self.

Gas valve wont engage -weatherking furnace troubleshooting

Depends on the system,if it has 2 wire switch it can be bypassed, but only 1 time for each heating cycle if the system is using i pc board to operate the furnace, sometimes you can take the hose off and lightly suck and blow on it if the switch is stuck, but should have a pro check it,could be a blocked flue pipe or other dangerous problem, and could be a bad switch, did heating and cooling for 30 years

Rv heater keeps running

Try cycling your disconnects a few times. Turn off the propane at the tank. Turn on the vent fan. Then turn on the furnace. Yes' I said turn off the gas and turn on the furnace. As the furnace tries to ignite "you will hear the spark" SLOWLY open the gas valve. I say slowly because the tank valve has a safety feature that stops the flow of gas if it is going to fast. By opening the valve slowly the gas will pressurize the line and the valve will stay open.
Here is the reasoning behind this. If your refrigerator, water heater or anything else gas was turned on while the gas valve was off the pressure left the line. When you turned the gas back on there was a rush that let the over sensitive safety valve kick out.

Some models have an electric safety valve connected after the regulator and it is controlled by the gas leak detector. If that detector is set off by anything..hairspray, Frebreeze, bug spray, silicone spray etc... it will turn off the gas at that electric solenoid. Clear the offending spray and reset the detector.

Hi, sounds like the MGV is not shutting off all of the way/ That would be the only reason gas would continue to flow, even on a small scale. If this keeps up, change that valve!! Do not take it apart, never! Good luck,

I HAVE A RUUD SILHOUETTE II GAS FURNACE. The glow rod glows bright, the fan whirrs for 30 seconds there is a click and nothing happens...the fan stops. No flame...nothing.??

this can be a few things. tonight, i fixed one with the same symptoms and it ended up being the gas valve was bad and the gas pressure on the outlet side was only 1 in water column on an LP furnace. That is one thing and would have to be checked with a manometer. The other is the board may not be sending 24volts to the gas valve telling it to open. hope this helps

I have a ruud 90 plus achiever gas horizontal furnace. the unit will run once i turn the thermostat off then on. it will cycle a few times go off and then will not come on. any suggestions?

Sounds like it could be a dirty or bad flame sensor.
When the burner lights ,there is a flame sensor in the flame and it is suppose to sense the flame and send a signal back to the control board which will keep the gas valve open, if it gets dirty or is bad it doesn't send the signal back to the board and the board will shut the gas valve off and after three tries it will lock out the furnace and you have to reset it to get it to work again.
The flame sensor looks like a wire and it's in the flame usually it will get gas deposits on it, then it won't work.
You can clean this sensor with an extra fine piece of steel wool, but before you attempt to do this DISCONNECT ALL POWER TO THE FURNACE.

Hi, I have seen this so many times. It could be a couple of things. In the sequence of operation, normally the small inducer fan will start to come on first, if your model has one. With the motor on, it closes a set of contacts telling the module, hey I am on and running. A safety device.Module sends power to the glow plug to light. If it glows but doesn't light, it may try a couple of times before it locks out the module, and you're indoor fan will come on and run.1 of 2 components will be at fault. Either the main gas valve coil is dead and not opening to fire the burners when the glow plug is established, or the ignition module is faulty not sending 24volts to the main gas valve to open. Try this, go to the unit and have someone set it to come on. When you see the glow plug start to get hot, listen very closely to the main gas valve to make a click. You can even put your finger on the small coil and feel it energize. If it does click, and you can fill it do so, this means it is getting the 24 volts to open and fire, but the coil is faulty and you must replace the valve. If you have a volt meter, you can put you're 2 leads on the 2 terminals, hot and common to see if you have 24 volts to it when the glow plug glows and its time for the valve to open.A click, feel, or 24volts,a/c tells that the module is good but valve is faulty. If no sound, click, or no feeling anything and you do have a volt meter and you have no 24 volts there at valve when its time to fire, the module is at fault and must be replaced. You can check for 24volts ac there also at the terminals marked mgv, and c or Grd.You should have 24volts there when glow plug is glowing before it goes out.I wanted to fully explain to you the steps you must take to find the solution, I know it might sound confusing, but it is rather simple when you know the sequence of operation of something. You can purchase the valve or module at an appliance parts house. Mark all wiring and draw a picture of the part you are replaceing. The gas valve is very easy to remove and install. It could be 1/2x 1/2 pipe or 1/2x 3/4, 3/4x3/4 ect.Turn off gas. remove flex line. Remove gas hand valve. Remove pipe nipple. Grab hold of main gas valve and turn CCW while holding nipple at other end. Remove wiring first and mark.Install in reverse using pipe dope. You can do this by hearing the click without a meter. It would be helpful if you could pick up a cheap model at like Sears tools.I do this just about everyday and I can promise you it is one of the two components. Please keep me informed and make a copy of this solution if you like for reference. It should not take you to long to know which is faulty. Best of Luck, and Sincerely,

Rheem gas furnace pilot lights, but no burners or fan

If the burners do not fully ignite, the sensor will shut the furnace down. The lack of sufficient burner flame is a gas valve or gas pressure problem within the valve.
Replacing the gas valve with the original one may get you going. I surely suggest a professional service company for safety reasons and a thorough inspection. A 20 year old furnace is past it's normal life span.

Let me know if you need more help. Good luck
