Question about Pool & Spa
Pump running but not sucking the water up to the filter
Take out the pump pot basket and stick your finger in the hole towards the motor (make sure the motor won't kick on!!). What you should feel is the impeller. It has five grooves in the face of it and each one needs to be cleaned of foilage and debris. With every hole clogged in the impeller you lose 20% of your motors effeciency. With whisperflow brand the pump pot basket is poorly designed where debris like pine needles go straight through.

Check for any pump suction side air leaks. If the filter is on the suction side of the pump then make sure its cover seal is clean and air tight.

If your equipment is below water level, problems may exist. One common problem is priming the pump. You may need to dump water in the pump to give it a little "UMPPF". You may need to install a check valve.
