I need a USB driver for Windows 98SE to use a flash memory pen.

I have a computer that my daughters do their home work on, it is running Windows 98SE and I need a driver for it to run a Toshiba flash drive pen. It is meant to run on a USB 1.1 or 2.0 A type port. Is there a driver to do this

THANK YOU very much! Problem solved first time around. Every where I went looking for answers was all negative, "can't do this, can't do that, Win 98 will never run flash drives etc, etc". Thanks for your positive 'a problem is only a problem if you make it one' attitude. Keep up the the good work.

The problem is that WIN98 does not have a USB driver unless you can download it from somewhere.
I suggest you upgrade Windows to at least WIN ME which will support USB devices.

I want to transfer files from an old desktop running Windows 98SE to a new laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic. I have bought a Maxell 2Gb memory stick: gone to the Maxell eu site and downloaded - as...

It should be unzipped and path to the unzipped folder provided while installing new hardware, when Windows (after plugging in the stick) finds a new plug&play device and asks for the location of drivers.

Also, go to your newer computer and check the USB stick's drive properties - it should be formatted using the FAT or FAT32 file system. If it's formatted using NTFS, Windows 98SE will not see it.

Good luck!

I don't have driver of pen drive in windows 98

Let's check your Windows 98 Version first :)
  • Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  • On the System Properties page that opens up click on the General tab, if it is not already on that page.
  • Under the System heading, look for the version number (see right)
    • Version 4.10.1998 is the original version of Windows 98 (98FE)
    • Version 4.10.2222 is Windows 98 Second Edition (98SE)
  • Click the link below for the download and installation instructions for your version of Windows 98
Fo Windows 98 FE:
  1. Download and install the Windows 98 Service Pack (35.5Mb)
  2. Download to your desktop the driver file from the Download section below
  3. Remove ALL drivers for USB flash drives in Device Manager (Optional)
  4. Remove ALL drivers for any USB 2.0 controllers (many have an uninstall option) (Optional)
  5. Remove ALL unknown devices from Device Manager
  6. Run the exe file you downloaded, and follow the instructions, rebooting after installation
  7. When the computer boots up again, it may detect new USB 2.0 controllers, in which case you may need to reboot again
The drivers can be downloaded from the following link:
Windows 98 FE Generic USB Mass Storage Device Drivers v3.20

For Windows 98SE:
  1. Download the exe file to the desktop
  2. Remove ALL drivers for USB flash drives in Device Manager
  3. Remove ALL drivers for any USB 2.0 controllers (many have an uninstall option)
  4. Remove ALL unknown devices from Device Manager
  5. Run the exe file you downloaded, and follow the instructions, rebooting after installation
  6. When the computer boots up again, it may detect new USB 2.0 controllers, in which case you may need to reboot again
The drivers can be downloaded from the following link:

Windows 98 SE Generic USB Mass Storage Device Drivers v3.3
