Linksys befw11s4 wireless b v.4 ping problems

The larger issue is that i cant connect games via the direct IP option. The smaller issue is that the friend trying to connect to me cant ping my routers Internet adress (as listed on its router setup page). i can ping his fine, and my internet connection is fine(so is his). i assume that the issue will be resolved in the settings page of my router.hopefully someone can help me resolve the small issue so i can tackle the big one thanx!

Have him do a traceroute to try to isolate where the packets start to drop

    I'm assuming you guys are using pc's

    ask him to do go to start>run>and type 'cmd' (without the ' ') and then press enter

    then ask him to type the following at the prompt

    tracert your-ip-address



    since you guys mention how you guys were trying to ping each other.. I'm assuming you guys were using ip address to ping eachother.. so asking to instead of typing ping your-ip-address, ask him to try the tracert command... that should tell him the different router the packets he's sending are going through to reach your ip address... if at some point he sees asteriks (* * *) that will let you guys know where the packets are getting discarded

I have a dell optiplex gx520,it is hooked up to wireless connection and it's showing that the signal is good,but IE won't let us view webpage......


can you check if have a valild IP address?

1. Start > RUN > type in "cmd"
2. On the command prompt windows (black DOS window),
> type "ipconfig" > hit Enter
> you should have a valid IP address (something like 192.168.x.x)
• if yes, then try to ping a website
• if no, (you should see somthing like 169.254.x.x), check your wireless settings again.
**good signal doesnt mean that you are connected, it could be a conflict with wireless encryptions too..**
3. to perform PING
> on the CMD screen (back DOS based window), type "ping (space) google.com"
> you should see ping statistics, something like "packets sent=4 received=4 lost=0"
• if 0% lost > your connected to the internet
• if 100% lost > you have no connection
> again check your wireless again
4. If you can Ping and you can't still view webpages using IE here's what I suggest
• Optimize your browser
-delete temporary internet files and cookies
4a.1 Open Internet Explorer
4a.2 Click "Tools" (the icon that looks ike a cogwheel / gear; usually at the upper right corner of internet explorer)
4a.3 Click "Internet Options"
4a.3 Click "Delete" under the General Tab Screen

No connection to the internet


make sure the modem box is connected to the INTERNET port of the wireless N router. and the desktop to any of the regular Ethernet ports on the back of the wireless N router. Also try replacing the Ethernet cable that is connecting the desktop to the wireless N router.
Then check the IP address of the desktop computer - to do that, go to the command prompt by clicking on Start. Run, then type CMD and hit OK
- on the black screen type IPCONFIG
- the IP address usually starts with 192 if you have a router
- try to ping a website from the command prompt by typing PING www.yahoo.com then press enter
- if able to get the word reply 4 times, it means the computer is connected to the iinternet.. it's just that there's something blocking the connection
- if there's 4 replies, check if there's a security software installed on the computer for ex Norton, try disabling it temporarily and see if you can get online
- if there's no reply on the PING test, and you just got request timed out or host unreachable, double check the TCP/IP settings on the computer, make sure it's set to Obtain IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically
- to check TCP/IP settings on the computer, if you have xp, go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections then right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties, look for Internet Protocol TCP/IP , just double click on it and from there you will be able to see the status..

Wireless connection will not let me surf the net.


Sorry this is going to be a long answer, would be easier in a real time talk, please go one by one on my suggestions to pinpoint the problem and thank you for your patience in advance :)

Start your internet explorer/firefox, go to google main page, type something into google that you search for and click search. The reason for this is: the main page can load from an offline cache file, seeing the main google page does not mean you are really connected to it. Only if it finds results on a search.

If giving in a search word and clicking search results with no page is displayed you are either offline in your browser settings, not connected to the internet or you have browser problems. So let us check which one. :)

The browser is easiest to check, click your file menu, and down at the bottom where it says work offline. If there is a little check, untick it. Since you say however, that when you connect with cable it works I will assume that the work offline is not checked. So I will guess for the first option, that you have a network issue, so I carry on with this option.

To try to troubleshoot this, click on your start menu, select the option RUN, type into the open field: cmd

Then click ok.

It will open a black dos window. In the window, please type (after all the text that is written in it):
ipconfig

Then hit enter. This will provide you with some information about your connections. Search for the line telling you the IP address your computer is currently using. Based on what the IP is there are the following options to go:

1) If your IP address starts with 169.*.*.*, then your computer seems to be ok, your network card etc works but you did not get an ip from your wireless router though are able to connect to it. Please shut down your computer, go to the router/modem, pull out the power cable from everything and count to ten. Then plug back in the power cable, wait till all lights on the router/modem go green and start up your computer again, and see if the problem is resolved. If not resolved, check for IP again (see above, with the cmd, ipconfig). If still starts with 169, contact your internet provider and complain that you have problems accessing your router wirelessly and you receive no IP address. They are responsible for your router and they can diagnose it remotely through the connection they have to it. This way you find out fast if it is a router problem. If it is your own router, please provide router brand, type, etc some sort of number so I can look up potential problems with it:)

2) If your IP address starts with 192.168.*.* that is half ways good news, because it means you did receive an IP from the router, so at least to the router you connected. That means again card is ok, your wireless connection to router is ok, you can not browse though so let us see if there is data transfer going through, Go to start menu, run, type in again: cmd
Hit ok.

In the black window now type:
ping google.com

Now hit enter. If it says that it can not resolve the name, then you seem to not even be able to resolve hostnames. Again call your internet provider, that while you are successfully connected to your router wirelessly, there is no data transfer through it. Please do make sure you tell them the IP address and that it works with cable. If ping google does give you a line saying it can ping it, then look underneath it for how many packages are sent out and how many arrived (ping statistics). If four sent and none arrived, again it is an issue with data transfer, try turning off the router and back on, try again, and if it does not work call the internet provider.

If ping statistics says four packets sent out and four arrived :

Pinging google.com [209.85.171.100] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 209.85.171.100: bytes=32 time=201ms TTL=236
Reply from 209.85.171.100: bytes=32 time=196ms TTL=236
Reply from 209.85.171.100: bytes=32 time=196ms TTL=236
Reply from 209.85.171.100: bytes=32 time=194ms TTL=236

Ping statistics for 209.85.171.100:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

This means you can ping google, so definetly you are on the net, then back to the issue of your browser being unable to go out. Then please get back to me we WILL solve that, but I need to ask you questions then.

3) If your IP address is NOTHING or 0.0.0.0 then either your card is disabled or dhcp client is not running on your computer. You can check this by clicking start menu, control panel, system, hardware, device manager -- go down till you see the icon for network adapters, open the option, look for your wireless card and see if it has a red cross on it or an exclamation mark. If yes, right click on it, go to properties and at the bottom choose: ENABLE.
If it has no red cross/exclamation mark, then check for the dhcp client service.
To do that you have to click on start menu, control panel, administrative tools, services, and in the list search for DHCP client. If you found it, select it and right click, then choose RESTART or START if it is not running. Once it runs, try reconnecting to the wireless and check for your IP in the black window again, if it now changes to something.

4) If your IP address is none of the above but some sort of number for sure *.*.*.* that means you are on the net, you have internet IP, and yet you can not browse. Try the ping google test, and based on the results if you DO get four sent, four received, get back to me, if four sent none received, reboot router and try again and call Internet provider if still not works.

Please get back to me about which of the above happened or if this solved your problem. If none of the above solved, please provide information what your computer said at which step and we will go on on that lead. Sorry for the long answer again, but network problems can have multiple reasons:)

contact Comcast and have them reset your IP address. also have them ping your modem after they reset IP.
Also, see Linksys website for LELA (easylink advisor) to add devices to network. Uses a good bit of memory so don't allow to run automatically at start up.

Your IP address for you linksys router needs to be changed.  More than likely there using the same IP address such as 192.168.0.1.
You have to convert your linksys router to a switch and change the IP address range it uses to on that doesn't conflict with the Verizon router.
10.150.1.1 should work.

Setup program that came with the linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 says it can not detect router but all wires are connected and all the lights are on that they said to look for


Try opening internet explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. After you do this it should prompt you for a username and password. If it does leave the username field blank and type in admin for the password. This will connect you to the router. If you typed that address in and did not recieve the prompt recheck the wires. Make sure your computer is connected to ports 1,2,3 or 4. Here is a link to the linksys website that has diagrams for this router:

No connection on 8231-4 router


hi

check your ip addresses .check that gatway and sub mask is same for both pc.

check both pc have differ name.

try the ping exe in both system anfd check u get reply in both pc.

restart pc
.
and if u get ping in both pc then if not access any pc of that then run the ip addresses in run .

if u not access any of pc then turn off its firewall or any antivirus firewall.
