Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR
The unit will try to read the disc for a couple moments and then will
say Disc Error: Please eject the disc. Playback feature may not be available on this Disc.
Yea... i think it's just dirt problem. Cause sometimes, i also try to put in the dvd and got the same thing as you have. but later on (when i play it again) it works fine. so probably it is just dirt even though i do get mad at it sometimes... (snicker).

In the manual there is a list of discs the unit wil play. On the last pages there is a quick reference. There are also region codes that need to be set. Maybe a power outage reset your settings. Also it would be good to know if this unit played disc previously, plays other disks? Or the discs play on other players. It could just be a dirt problem as well.
Manual is available here;
