Remove front panel and check the springs that hold the bowl down onto the base. One of them may be broken or detached. On the base, the bowl assembly fits into a plastic collar. This collar may be worn, causing the machine to go out of balance. My guess is that the collar is worn or broken. You should be able to see plastic "dust" or pices on the base or the floor under the machine.

First plug off the wall. Open the machine from behind to examine if any shock-absorbers(known as dampers) or springs have come off or broken. Your dealer could help with spares. But you could do the job yourself.

One common problem area is the clutch assembly. The clutch is built on top of the motor, the motor drives the clutch and the clutch assembly drives the rest of the washer. The clutch gets very noisy when parts inside are worn out. The shoes lining that drives the inner drum of the clutch wear off and you will get a metal on metal sound. Clutches often can be rebuilt, but sometimes they are too worn and replacing the whole clutch is the best repair. Please use this link here for clutch replace and repair info. The belt and pump may be the next items to check for noises. How to access the washer. Clutch repair help.

We have the same problem, and found out the the electric motor is running very hot. Replacing the motor seam to cure the problem, but the motor is not inexpensive. $200 to $350.

If this machine has a place to put pour fabric softener in that's sits under the lid on the cabinet? If so, the hose that allows the softener drain into the tub is either leaking or is disconnected.
