Carrier A/C Intermittent Shut-down Problem

I'm currently experiencing an intermittent problem with my Carrier A/C Model FC4BNF042. It shuts down completely and fails to restart. When in this condition, there is no LCD display on the thermostat indicating the unit is on. I've also checked but was unable to detect 24V from the output side of the transformer although the 220V input was fine. I isolated the transformer, thinking it may be bad, and performed a simple resistance check. The primary side read 74 ohms and the secondary 1.7 ohms. Even though it appeared a little high I assumed the transformer was okay since it did not have an obvious short or open coil. I proceeded to visually check all the wiring, components, fuses, etc. and all appeared to be fine in the air handler unit. I have a gut feeling the thermostat may be defective. Is there something that I may be overlooking and could check before I go out to and buy a new thermostat? By the way, the unit began working again about an hour after I last checked it.

It sounds like there is something in the system that is over heating. A t-stat will either work or it won't there are relays that have 24v coils and can become weak. If your air handler is shutting down it shut down the condenser, if the air handler is staying on but condenser is shuting down check the outside contactor. I am an a/c contractor and can be contacted at 504-722-3946 Eddie.

This problem has been solved. There was intermittent contact inside the power switch on the front of the case causing the motherboard to issue a shut-down request to the operating system. Switch replaced and system is now stable.

Computer wont start and when it does it shuts itself down

Sound like a power overload system is kicking in, which means either a bad power supply or shorted circuit else where. Disconnect the DVD, CD, and any other devices to narrow it down. Try another known good power supply. If all this fails, it's going to be a problem with the motherboard, by elimination. There can be an intermittent capacitor or electronic heat sensitive part that's shutting down the computer. There are diagrams and videos on the net that can guide you through possible problems, in case you want to fix it yourself. Google "Intermittent Computer Startup" and you will find some good suggestions. One site is this one:

There could be a problem with this router's firmware that is why you are experiencing intermittent connection with it... Try hard resetting it and try reconfiguring it back again

My prosine 2.5 charger inverter intermittent

First try blowing it out the unit with compressed air to see if there is large amounts of accumulated dirt inside, look for black soot on the center of the air outlet side.

Intermittent problems are the hardest to troubleshoot.

1987 volvo 244 intermittent fast idle floods after shut down

The coolant temp sensor sends signal to the ECU and the ECU adjusts the idle RPM. When the coolant is cold, the engine requires more fuel to sustain idle with thick oil (oil gets thicker & more viscous when cold). This makes the engine to idle at faster RPM but it should settle down to 850 RPM or so after the coolant warms up. The sensor is nothing but a thermistor; a device that changes electrical resistance according to the coolant temperature.

TV goes off intermittently

sounds like an intermittent shut down which is heat related. some part , maybe one stuck on a heatsink is warming up and running too much current triggering shutdown.
to find it you can tell what is shutting down with a voltmeter, or you can heat suspected parts with a blow dryer to speed the shutdown .. or freeze spray to see if it goes beyond your shutdown time.

TV won' turn on

Solder, solder, solder! Shut down circuits protect crts to avoid permanent damage. If any of the deflection circuits are defective, or intermittent, shut down occurs. I have not only seen bad solder on deflection circuits, especially vertical, but also intermittent connections on the yokes themselves. I've also seen shorted convergence ics cause shut down. Don't forget solder connections in the power supply.
