Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Kemore 80 Series stock # 26832

The washer will not go through the rinse cycle. For a time when it would stop I was able to firmly tap the top of the washer and it would continue. Now it just stops. I am able to turn the knob forward to just past the rinse indication and it will start again for 2 minutes, but then stop and not go on to any other cycles. I drained the tub and it did not continue to spin. Any solutions

Yeah...check your lid switch. This is a very common description of a lid switch malfunction. In fact hitting the washer, or slamming the lid will make the problem progressively worse. The lid switch is located in the right hand side under the cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first, then check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (two screws along the tub rim on the right hand side). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading for item number 11 (part number 3949238). If you do not wish to order online, take the part number provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a common part that most carry. The following link explains how to replace the switch:

This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

Washer stops after wash cycle, does not cool down and drain water. I turn the knob to rinse it starts up again but does not drain the water. Help

Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? ..........

Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines.........

The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub.

The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers. Series numbers (70, 80, 90) only designate the number of "Bells and Whistles" that a washer has and don't reflect the model number.

See the following for where to find the model number:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=21&osCsid=c73289e58485c8752675ae1a35ff796b

Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem.

I have a Kemore 80 series washer model not filling properly

Check the inlet hoses for plugged screens at the faucet ends. The screens are usually replaceable if you can't get them clean in a white vinegar/hot water solution. Check the inlet ports to the washer for similar screens. Hope this helps!

Kemore 80 series, washing machine will not drain

A washer that fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price. If you have questions, or my advice does not match your symptoms, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore 80 Series top loading washer--will not stop filling with water at the beginning of the wash cycle and for the rinse cyle. Is there an easy fix or should I purchase a new washer? How much can I

The pressure switch is failed - remove the tube from inside the top console area and blow it out. If you're lucky it will again work - with no charge.

Won't complete cycle, stops at rinse. and can't get hot water.

Are you on well water? turn off the cold water to the washer and clean the screen filter out. do not leave filter out.
the machine probably has a cold only final rinse so it won't work properly.
