Upon wrapping up his visit to the US, a friend of mine gave me his very recently purchased FUJI E550. I was so excited to have this camera and in fact used it in number of occasions. Last week, I went to New York, and the camera started to show me an error: Zoom Error. It does not open the lens at all. I do not know what to do since my friend lost all waranty information including purchasing information. Do you have any suggestions?

-   The Zoom Error problem is fixed, but the lens cover does not open completely and properly. So when a picture is taken, it will show a black shadow on the picture due to the cover's blockage of the light entering in.-   Ahmany
This problem is common with this camera. There is a fix for it. You pull the lens out gently all the way till the lens cover opens. Then you twist it gently till you hear a click and it should be fixed then. They say it works. Do a search for Fuji E550 zoom error fix and you should be able to bring it up. Good luck.

- By the way you twist it clock wise gently. NOT Counterclockwise.

Or you can simply buy a camera in the classifieds for less money and throw your POS finepix against the wall. That's how I fixed it!

Most likely you have some sort of dust or sand caught in the lens. This would cause this kind of error. Either that or something has broken inside your camera. Either way you will need to take it to a camera shop and have it fixed, this will probably cost you a good amount. One suggestion that I have seen (if it is sand or dirt) is to gently hit the camera, as this can dislodge the dirt.

I have similar problem with my Fuji Finepix E550. Looking back on pictures taken, I see camera started in May month to overexpose and reduce resolution for some every second pictures. Few pictures later, problem seems permanent. Video is currently working perfectly fine. Have not tried to contact Fuji dealer here in Norway yet. Read one of the solutions down here that CCD maybe broken. If anybody out there, like Fuji people or closer to Fuji people than I am, has resolution to my camera problem, I will appreciate you contact me. The first digits in S/N of my camera is: 44L043xx where xx will be given to Fuji people upon contacting me. Camera is 3 to 4 years old, and probably out of warranty. Pretty short life for a digital camera I think. If nobody from Fuji with sound solution contacts me, I will probably not buy Fuji anymore. Previous broken camera was Canon Powershot. Almost same life length. Will not buy powershot again either. Different problem. Will let FixYa know result/outcome if any.

When
taking a picture camera will make sound like the picture was taken, and the
preview of the picture will appear briefly (less than a second) on the display;
then the display will get dark and camera will stop responding to anything but
the power button.
When
in viewing mode everything works fine.
There
were some moments when it would take a picture, or start taking a video, but
after one more try it would get to the problem described
above.
