Despite it being old, may be helpful:

I believe (From years running a computer support company) that eMachines keyboards have different controllers - probably intentionally - that will only work with eMachines computers. If you've changed the motherboard whilst repairing your PC then this will definitely be the culprit - sorry, it's new keyboard time!

1. check your keyboard is plugged in the right port (ps/2 ports for mouse and keyboard look alike, each have a 6 pin mind din connector, but they're different colors and not interchangeable, make sure you got them connected where they're supposed to be.
2. test the keyboard on another machine if possible (to rule out your keyboard as the problem).
3. do you see any lights blinking on your keyboard when the computer starts (if not there's problem with either your motherboard or the keyboard itself)
4. is there any error when the machine boots? (I think error 301 is the keyboard error) check number 1.
5. if possible try to use a usb keyboard (hopefully your bios will have usb support enable other wise your usb keyboard may not work.)

Could be a couple of things.

First, try connecting another keyboard using the same type of connection as your keyboard. (PS2, or USB). If that one works in the machine; then it's more then likely that there is a problem with your keyboard.

If it doesn't work, it may be a problem with the system itself or possibly a software problem. To test a keyboard is very simple and this test is integrated in most of the BIOS startup systems today. Simply press more than 7 keys right when you turn your power on to the system. If it beeps after a few seconds of holding or brings up a keyboard error, then the keyboard is communicating with the system. If there's a keyboard error that actually states that there is no keyboard present; then there is a problem.

I hope this helps you narrow it down. If it's not the keyboard itself, and you can't get any keyboards to work, I'd have that shop take another look at what they did.

My internal camera and function keys are not working

Sometimes hardware for laptops malfunction and cause other problems to other internal devices. Bring it to a pc repair shop, or if you know how to replace it yourself then order one and replace it. Your problem is a keyboard error. Try reinstalling the keyboard driver, if that doesn't do the trick get a new keyboard and reinstall the driver again. Make sure you order the exact keyboard, the model # should be right behind the keyboard itself.

Ithink i erased the key board file on my lab top and i kant get it to work

the best way to make your keyboard work is to repair the operating system that you are using. For example windows 7 or xp or anything. This will replace the corrupted keyboard files. Make sure that you do a backup for all your files and when doin the repair. If the repair doesnt work then you have replcae the operating system

My keyboard OFTEN stops working. I have to reboot

Try changing the keyboard, see if that helps. Key boards are fairly cheap. You failed to mention the Operating System. Win xp, home,
Win 7..??? You might also try updating drivers. To do that, go to Start, control panel, device manager, keyboards, right click and then click update driver. Hope this helps.

I have notebook Compaq 6715b with Windows XP (no SP2). Sound doesnt work. drivers from HP official site not working

Hello,

trust me, the fault is from the win xp SP2. I am saying this with confidence and out of experience. Except if the audio drivers you downloaded is for win vista.

While running the Win xp, some files make have skipped/not installed which is making the sound not to work. Or maybe you have initially installed a wrong audio driver.

To solve this problem. you have to re-run the win xp, if possible, use another xp Cd, maybe not Sp2.

After installation, let the audio driver be the fist thing you install.

Take care.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

NTLDR missing

In XP, you can load your XP cd and do a repair:
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your applications, it just re-installs the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.

In Vista , it is tricky. Let me know.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Tap feature on MAcbook 2.4Ghz 2GB

I am running mac OS 10.5.5 and Win XP using parallels.  You need to make sure the system preferences in the mac OS to allow two fingers for secondary click using the trackpad. This allows you to right click in Win XP.
I find using two fingers and clicking the button works more reliably in windows xp.  I usually have to try two finger tapping a few times.

To right click by tapping: Go to System Preferences and choose Keyboard & Mouse.  Select "Clicking" and "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click". This allows you to tap the trackpad with two fingers side by side to get the "right click" effect.  You can also right click without tapping with this setting.
