My canon 70d does not zoom and focus automatically

My guess is the self timer was accidently turned on

Description

Using the Self-timer on the EOS REBEL T3i.

Solution

The self-timer is useful when you want to photograph yourself or prevent camera shake caused when the shutter is released.
1. Set the power switch to <ON>.
2. Press < > button.
  • You can check the self-timer operation with the self-timer lamp, beeper, and countdown display (in seconds) on the LCD monitor.
  • Two seconds before the picture is taken, the self-timer lamp will stay on and the beeper will sound faster.
Attention:
With [ ], the interval between the multiple shots may be prolonged depending on the shooting functions settings such as the image-recording quality or flash.
NOTE:
  • After taking self-timer shots, you should check the image for proper focus and exposure.
  • If you will not look through the viewfinder when you press the shutter button, attach the eyepiece cover. If stray light enters the viewfinder when the picture is taken, it may throw off the exposure.
  • When using the self-timer to photograph only yourself, use focus lock on an object at about the same distance as where you will stand.
  • To cancel the self-timer after it starts, press the < > button.

Does camera have timer

Putting Yourself in the Picture The Self Timer creates a 10-second delay between the time you press the Shutter button and the time the picture is taken. 1 Place the camera on a flat surface or use a tripod. 2 In any Still mode, press the Self Timer button. The Self Timer icon appears in the status area. 3 Compose the scene. Then press the Shutter button half-way and hold to set the exposure and focus, then press the rest of the way down. Move so that you are in the scene. The Self Timer light blinks slowly for 8 seconds (then quickly for 2 seconds) before the picture is taken. The camera "clicks" when the picture is captured. To turn off the shutter sound, see page 64. The Self Timer turns off after you take the picture or if you change modes. To cancel the Self Timer before the picture is taken, press the Self Timer button. (The Self Timer setting remains active.) To turn off the Self Timer, press the Self Timer button twice.

Automatic shooting (for group pictures)

Hi - You can download the manual from the link underlined in blue below:

PowerShot A710

The feature you need is the "self timer" on page 14:

When you press the shutter you will have up to 30 seconds to get yourself in the picture before the camera automatically takes the picture. For best results put the camera on a tripod.

Please take a moment to rate this solution & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

Shooting modes

The Shooting modes are as follows: Program Auto (Factory default setting) Used for regular photography. The camera automatically makes the settings for natural color balance. Other functions, such as the flash mode and metering, can be adjusted manually. Portrait Suitable for taking a portrait-style shot of a person. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Landscape Suitable for taking photos of landscapes and other outdoor scenes. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. Night scene Suitable for shooting pictures in the evening or at night. The camera sets a slower shutter speed than is used in normal shooting. If you take a picture of a street at night in any other mode, the lack of brightness will result in a dark picture with only dots of light showing. In this mode, the true appearance of the street is captured. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. If you use the flash, you can take pictures of both the subject and the background. Self Portrait Enables you to take a picture of yourself while holding the camera. Point the lens towards yourself and the focus will be locked on you. The camera automatically sets the optimal shooting conditions. The zoom is fixed in the Wide position and cannot be changed.
