I've seen 3, 4, and even 5A chargers for Selects, so it sort of depends on what model you have, and chargers are pretty easy to find and fairly cheap.

My bigger question is... are you sure he put the right kind of high quality batteries in there? Because good batteries cost so much, I have seen a lot of cheapo batteries in used chairs.

You need two 12 volt batteries in series for your charger to work. If the batteries are both flat then use an automotive 12 battery charger to recharge them individually. It may take several days to get them back up enough for the 24 volt battery charher to start working again.

I didn't understand fully but it is not unusual for a laptop battery to have a different voltage to the charger. My laptop battery says 11.1V 56Wh but my charger says 19.5V @ 4.62A. As long as you have the correct battery replacement part and correct charger everything will be fine.

The charger puts out 24VDC@4A. Typically my charger [off a Rascal 600t] will charge at 3.5A. It seems that the industry standard is to multiply the amperage by 135% providing that your using the proper gage wire and the temperature is nominal. 3.5A x 1.35 = 4.73 or 5A. So i think a 5A fuse will do it for you

The red wire is positive and is soldered to pin 1. You can see the 1 on the pin (non solder side) of the plug housing or on the solder side as a raised stamp 1.
The black wire is soldered to the negative pin 2. Two of the pins are bridged to inhibit the power chair operation when the charger is plugged in. Hope this helps.
