The tv doesn't click or anything. The red light keeps flashing forever. The red light doesn't go off at all. The tv is 7 years old. Do you think it is even worth fixing?

I have an Infiniti g35 and the compact disc player just stopped playing and a message that reads "cd error fo" comes on. The player won't load, play, or even release my 6 cds. It's as though the player keeps spinning and is trying to find its tracking. Anyway, that's what it sounds like. what do you think is going on?

Here is the service manual for your TV.

Do the diagnostics as listed and then let me know the results.

Trinitron is a great tv...a bit more expensive than other to fix as you can not just replace one part in its curcuits. you MUST buy a kit and replace every part in a defective circuit or it will keep eating components. unless it's a fuse , insist they do a full repair and not just a quick fix.
Look for an estimate before a repair, some wont charge for this.
Keep in mind that everything is switching to digital and you might consider a digital HDLCD tv that weighs a 1/4th of what your Sony does.

Hope this helps in your decision making.

In repairing power boards in a tv like the Sony KV 32FV310,replace all the capacitors which should costs less than $10 USD.Look for diode 647 and replace it $3 usd.
Learn how to read if a capacitor or diode is good.
Set your Resistance reading to the highest setting on a Multimeter and place the black probe on the negative side of the capacitor marked with a painted side and (-) sign and the other on the unmarked side.It must charge up to 1500 Mega-ohm or more.
In testing Diodes set the Multimeter to Diode Setting ,which must read 1 in one direction and a large millivolt in the other e.g.588,any other readings it is considered faulty.

It seems the high voltage flyback autotransformer has failed along with the horizontal amplifier (they are slaved to each other). Do you hear any clicking sounds?

Or else it could be that the CRT tube is faulty and will need to be repaired/replaced.

Well, the only way to solve this is to get a technician take a look at the set, I'm afraid. Repairs could cost upto $100 or more, depending upon the number of components that need to be replaced,

It may be worth getting fixed up. If you decide to do so, call around, as shops have different rates and different expertise.

Hope that helps!

Like I said, most likely an issue in the power module, or some cold solders. Can happen during moving. Enquire around for prices.
Since the TV is 7 years old, my honest opinion would be to actually invest in a new TV. But in the end the decision is yours to make :)

Try a hard reset - Unplug the player from power source for about 15 minutes and replug and see if this resolves the issue. If not, it could indicate an issue with the optical assembly, which will require the services of a professional.
(This should actually be posted as a separate query, as it is not related to the TV issue :)

As for the TV, there is most likely a short circuit somewhere on the power board, which is why the protect mode is kicking in to take over the power management. Repairs may prove to be expensive, and considering the age of the TV, I think you got your money's worth. Any TV lasting more than 6 years without problems is a great deal. I think its best to retire the old set and simply go in for a new one.

    Cheers!

Sony tv wont start up???

The flashing should be a repeated number of blinks. Please post that count as that will indicate the circuit in which the set detected a problem. The set is in protective shutdown. Using hte blink count, we can determine the possible problem and solutions.

Red LED flashes probably five times.
You have not mentioned the model no, so I have to guess it is few years old model.eg FE2 chssis or similar.
Most common reason, R618 270k ohms in power section has gone high.
Second, screen voltage control is slightly misaligned.
Third, high value resistors on tube base, normally two connected to screen voltage control pot have gone high.
You need to have some knowledge , a multi meter and soldering iron and know safety procedures before trying yourself.
