Question about Compaq Presario V4000 Notebook
Your problem could be one of the 3 things:
a) the battery (about $50 to replace on eBay)
b) the AC/DC card which actually converts electricity into "juice" for your battery (probably around $50-75 + labor)
c) motherboard (for most laptops, between $200 and $400)
My recommendation would be to either buy a new battery first to see, since that's the easiest way to determine the problem ...or perhaps post an ad on Freecycle.org for someone to give you or let you borrow their battery just to test it out.
If the new or borrowed battery doesn't charge, it's options b or c
