My son has the same problem. His battery is good, it just won't charge when he plugs it in. I have the same computer and when he puts my battery in his computer, it works fine, and when we charge his battery on my computer, that works also. Does that still sound like the ac/dc card or the motherboard?

I have the same problem with my v4000. I dropped it and now it will not charge with the AC adapter plugged in. I bought a quick dock for from HP and the battery charges thru it when I have it plugged into the computer and run the AC thru the quick dock The computer runs fine and works with out problems. But as you probably understand I have to have it connected to the quick dock all the time to charge

    What is my problem?

Your problem could be one of the 3 things:

a) the battery (about $50 to replace on eBay)
b) the AC/DC card which actually converts electricity into "juice" for your battery (probably around $50-75 + labor)
c) motherboard (for most laptops, between $200 and $400)

My recommendation would be to either buy a new battery first to see, since that's the easiest way to determine the problem ...or perhaps post an ad on for someone to give you or let you borrow their battery just to test it out.

If the new or borrowed battery doesn't charge, it's options b or c

Hope this helps :)

My AC adapter suddenly can't seems to be able to charge my battery. Please kindly advise

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced. Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED lightup? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Compaq presario does not turn on

Your battery is dead. You need to get a new power adapter. The battery isn't charging. The AC adapter went south. If the laptop is under warranty, you can get one from Compaq. Or, what I would do is shop on the internet and order one. Whats the numbers on the ac adapter? I'll help you find one.
