Panasonic tz5 movie files will not play in Windows only Quicktime

Hi there, I changed my camera from a Sony to a Panasonic tz 5 and the movies clip I record do not play in Windows Media Player or from Windows Photo Gallery anymore. I find Quicktime very ackward as I have to tell every movie clip separately that I want to open it in Quicktime.

Any solution to this problem. I quite like the Photo Gallery and that I can just click on an old Sony movie clip and it will play automatically.

Thanks

Manuela

If the movies are recorded as .avi, then you will have to use QuickTime. One way to avoid having to select QuickTime each time is to hold the SHIFT key, right click over the video file and select "Open With". Now select QuickTime (otherwise select other programs) and scroll to QuickTime from the list and you should see a check box at the end of the list and make sure its checked. Here is a screen shot:
Panasonic tz5 movie files will not play in Windows - 82275de.jpg
Now click OK and the next time you open the camera movie files, it will automatically open in QuickTime.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

Cant play downloaded video files on my windows xp laptop

Jenny stef t:
On page 77 of the user manual for your camera (click here for user manual), it states that the movie format is "MPEG-4/H.264, Audio: G.711 [Monaural]". The easiest way to play these types of movies on your Windows XP machine is to download and install QuickTime for Windows.
Download QuickTime for Windows (click here for download) and save it to your Windows Desktop.
Once downloaded, double-click on the downloaded file on your Desktop and follow the directions to install QuickTime on your Windows XP machine.

After you've installed and completed any reboots necessary, you should then be able to double-click on the video files from your camera and have them play automatically on QuickTime.

Thanks for using FixYa and please feel free to ask follow-up questions.

My computer doesn't play movies taken with my ls80

This camera uses quicktime. Windows Media Player should play your molvies. If not, try VLC media player. You can burn a dvd that will play on a regular dvd player. Download DVD FLICK which will convert the files into MPEG which play on a dvd player.

Panasonic Digital camera DMC TZ3 Movie mode works and plays back on camera. When I import to Picassa they are stills. not movie clips

Picassa is a still photo software program. It does not work with videos. Try opening you videos in Quicktime. It's a free download if you don't have it already.

The .MOV files are apple quicktime files. you can download quicktime or install K-lite codec pack, which will let you open the files in Windows Media player. It may even let edit them in Windows Movie-maker. Cheers.

When I download from my camera to my computer, the videos only appear as images, and I can't play them.

for example, if you capture a video with your camera, it automatically creates 2 files: a thumbnail = a picture, and the movie. You're probably trying to view the thumbnail. Check the extensions of the files for those with .mp4 or .mov, those are the movies. These can be played with Quicktime or other players.

Can't play the videos I've recorded...

The panasonic vidoe are in quicktime - you will need to either download quicktime software to run the vidoe clips or you can convert the file format from quicktime into windows media player format. The codecs you are downloading may convert your files but I am not familiar with GO.

I suggest you download quicktime for now, so you can at least play your vidoes. be sure to check your operating system for the download.

At a later date, you may or may not want to edit them in which case you can download a conversion tool or do so online.

Downloading the video to apple computer

Hi, I have the same camera :)
I use windows.
But I believe the procedure is same.
If using SD card reader in your laptop: Open the SD card and download the movie files.
This camera stores a thumbnail (which is a picture of the movie file) and a .mov (Quicktime movie) for each movie you click.
Here is the manual for the camera http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMCFZ7.PDF

cheers,

    • On the Play menu, click Play Storyboard or Play Timeline, depending on the view you are working in, and then pause playback at the frame of video you want to capture as a picture.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Take Picture from Preview. -or-
On the monitor, click the Take Picture button.

Cannot view the movies I made on my camera and downloaded to my Vista PC

I assume you can view them in you camera, right? If not, the following solution will not help.

The .MOV Apple QuickTime format Panasonic uses for its camera movie clips cause problem on with viewing, as seen from several other problem posts here and the net.

Some computer use a Win 32Bit operating system, other better ones use a Win 64. It is hard to believe QuickTime would let you load a 64bit version into a 32bit OS, or vice versa. But who knows. Rather double clicking on te file name itself, open QuickTime, then go to File Open and Browse to the file and select it that was. If this doesn't work, go to QuickTime website and try their User Forums first to ask a question or find a thread talking about movie files not playing. Else, CONTACT website and ask question. Post any solution here for readers.
