Question about Karcher 2500 PSI Pressure Washer

1 Answer

I have an SDMO generating set with a Mitsubishi S3 L2SD engine it is supposed to run at 1500 rpm but goes up and down depending on load, if I set the rpm at no load to 1500 as soon as a load is applied the revs drop and so do the cycles from 50 to perhaps 48, if I set the revs on load, then off load the revs go up and the cycles hit 53 plus which means for example my washing machine does not want to know, I suspect the govenor on the pump but do not want to change the pump if this is within parameters for this engine, regards Rick

Set the no load revs such that you get 51 Hz out of the generator, at 80% load this ought to give you something like 48.5 Hz with less than a 3% drop in output voltage. If not, you might have governor problems but I'd try servicing and adjusting it before replacing anything other than filters.

My robin subaru r1100 can I run it at 240 as it has a UK plug on it I tried to run a kettle but it started to cut out thanks

You need to determine output frequency. Is your engine running at 3000 rpm (50 Hz)? At 50 Hz this generator only produces 700 VA (850 VA max).

I just look at my coffee pot here and it requires 1000 VA (watts) of power. If is more power requirement than this generator could produce even if it was operating in 120v mode at 60 hz.

How do I adjust the engine speed on an 01802 pressure washer

It's supposed to! Unless it bogs down to the point of shutting off. The governor is the main mechanism for engine idle.
Best of luck to ya!

Engine racing very high when pump not using

Sounds like the engine governor is out of adjustment or it is sticking. The engine governor job is to regulate the engine RPM and torque that is needed to power a load and return to the manufactures no load engine RPM. Recommended RPM's on pressure washers and generators are usually governed at 3,600 RPM's because that is where the engine is producing most of its torque and HP.

Hi. I'm scratch building a pressure washer using a Comet BXD2831G pump. If I don't plan on using any type of detergent, is it OK (or manditory) to plug the detergent intake to keep it from sucking...

No need to plug the injector because under pressure (internal force/pressure) keeps valve shut. It only opens when large nozzle (black tip) is used lowering internal pressure causing siphon effect. Some chemical injectors have a thumbwheel to shut off flow completely. Your plug idea will keep the opening clean for later use. You can adjust pressure by ear. Your pump will take a 6.5 hp engine to develop max pressure of 2700 psi, however, to extend the life of the pump and engine, adjust pressure to about 75 % of capacity or about 2000 psi. To develop 6.5 hp your engine must turn at about 3600 rpm which is over the max rpm of the pump 3400rpm. The rpm of the engine is usually set by using the appropriate governor spring. Easy task, by using the model number and type of the engine, you can determine the proper governor spring and placement on the throttle arm, maybe about 3000 rpm would be sufficient. Now with engine rpm set, turn pressure adjustment up until engine sounds to you like at full labor, then adjust down to a workable pressure for majority of work and turn up for stubborn debris. Good luck with your project.

I have 5.5hp briggs&stratton pressure washer Simoniz S2350. Would you know the PSI for this item?

Every 5.5 HP pressure washer runs between 2,200 and 2,500 PSI with most set by the manufacturer at 2,400 PSI with 3,600 RPM of engine speed.

Due to the power required to produce more than 2,500 PSI a 5.5 HP engine would lose engine speed as it can not produce enough power for the higher PSI output. It is a matter of hydraulics vs input power.

Any gas pressure washer will produce lower pressure with lower engine RPM. Looking at S2350 as your model number yours may be set to 2,350 PSI by Simoniz.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Engine and water pressure surge

Almost certainly, your problem is being caused by the engine governor being set wrong. The governor is responsible for adjusting the engine as it comes under a load. With the breather off the carb, watch for the linkage that moves all by itself when you pull the trigger. It will have a spring as part of it, and an "arm" that is part of the linkage. This arm has 4-7 holes in it. Moving the spring to a different hole may fix the problem. There is also usually an adjustment screw that you can toy with and see if that tweaks it. But I'd definitely try moving the spring -- 1 position at a time -- and see if it a). helps or b). hinders......... Depending on the answer, you get a clue as to which direction to go with your next adjustment attempt. One of two directions will put the correct tension of the spring/arm and cause the governor to govern correctly.
