after about 3 days from my purchase, one of the blades of the left fan broke off. about 3 weeks later the right fan made a rumble noise. then after about a week, the right fan stopped working and the left fan is running weaker than normal.

Mine made it about 3 months too, I was looking here for a solution but apparently there isn't one. I guess no more buying Targus if they can't make a fan right

I have the same problem, and I looked inside to see the cause- the interior part for the power is poorly made and comes loose. That's the reason for the one fan not working and it getting weak. Sometimes wiggling the cord or trying to stabilize it will help. But, as I learned the hard way, it will eventually break. Its a poorly made product, and I've had mine about 4 months now and it completely broke today. I opened it and did my best to stabilize the part, but... it will break. As best as I can tell, its a poorly made product and there is no permanent solution.

I had a similar problem. What I did was opened up the case and spliced and connected the power cord to the USB connector permanently. Not an issue since.

What are the other ports used for, and can I use them to run the fans?

Do you mean the USB-ports on your laptop? If so, than yes, you will need one free USB-port to connect the Chill Mat to.

The little insert in the usb port on my targus dual fan chill mat has become loose. How do I re-insert it and keep it from becoming loose again?

Tawny, If port still functioning, use 2 part epoxy to secure port, be care, no glue inside port.

Fan does not work

Check the power connection between the fan and the motherboard. The connector might not be inserted to the motherboard for power. I guess that if the fan does not work, you could not start your PC or it stops immediatly after you start it.

Lost the targus notebook chill mat power cord (usb from computer to the mat). Where can I find a replacement?

hi this can be purchased from somewhere like radio shack specs are Output: 5V 2000mA, centre is + positive so really just your standard adaptor will do, this also comes from the targus site hope that helps

Targus Chill Mat Fan On Fritz

The fan rotor is stuck due to accumulation of dust. Take out the fan and clean it. Put a few drops of alcohol or lacquer thinner on the rotor/bushing assembly while manually turning its blades to loosen the hardened dirt until the fan freely spins like the good one. If it does not work, replace the defective fan if spare is available.

Chill mat

i have 1 as well and it broke too. this is

if its the cord's thats broken, its most likely the switch, more specifically the soldering where the wire connects to the switch is prolly broken. i just sawed my switch open w/ a knife, and took a look. now if a wire is loose in the switch, u can either solder it back on, or (in my case i always have the fan on anyway cuz of my **** dell computer overheating) rip the wire off the switch completely and just connected it w/ aluminum foil.
