The card may have been bent or had scratches on its metal parts. (how bad did you force it?) if its not bent and the metal parts are not scratched see if it will show you the same results on a different machine. Since you have not identified the machine, i am not sure if the card was inserted into the camera or a computer backwards. either way the metal parts need to go into the machine. Check to see if any other items are touching the metal on the card. (and I assume you mean SD card, since this camera can only take SDHC, SD or SDXC cards.)
Sorry, I inserted the card into my Nikon Coolpix P100 backwards... I'm not sure if I pushed it all the way down it but quite a ways. The images show up on my IMac.
The camera will need to go in for service then. what has happened is that the pins are probably bent, but could be broken off. there is not a way to really tell you how to look for them. When you say the images show on your imac are the images from the card? or are you doing a cable? take the battery out of the camera and let it sit for 30 minutes and see if it resets.
When I put the SD card in my IMac the images are all there. I'll try taking the batteries out. If the pins are bent should I send the camera back to Nikon or can you recommend a local repair shop in So. Maine?
the USA approved Nikon repair facility list is here. http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-Supp...
page 24 (pdf 36) of the manual talks about cards and inserting them but page 25 (pdf 37) says nothing about puting them in backwards~! page 183 (pdf 195) at the bottom talks about inserting the card correctly, so you may still not be putting it in right?
here is the manual linkhttp://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-Supp...
I've removed and reinserted the media cards many times... so I know that it's in correctly this time. I put it in upside down a few days ago because I was trying to multitask and wasn't paying attention to how I was holding the card. Thus, the damage.. :-(
