by working flute i mean you have to have a way to force the smoke from the stove up the pipe your old chimney at one time had a forced air furnace so no need for a flute with a wood burning stove just like a fire place you have to have a working flute to force the smoke upward so as to avoid carbon monoxide from collecting in the house. please re-rate this solution... thanks

Alternative Heating Pellet Stoves and Pellet Inserts

Pellet stoves usually use wood pellets as their primary heat source. A pellet stove is defined as a stove that burns either compressed wood or biomass pellets to make heat to warm a home or other space.

Pellet stoves come as either free-standing units or fireplace pellet inserts which can be vented into an existing chimney. As an insert, you are able to replace your wood burning stove with this efficient and cost effect stove. Inserts also give the homeowner more of the look of a fireplace than that of a pellet stove. Pellet inserts can also be a great alternative for people who have busy lifestyles and are looking to get the beauty of a fire but prefer a cleaner burning renewable heat source.

Pellet stoves are freestanding structures that can give you the feeling that an old pot bellied stove did, tucked into a corner of a living room, den, or kitchen. Either the pellet inserts or freestanding stoves are a great alternative heating solution for keeping a house warm during the winter.

Many stove manufacturers recommend the using a corn and pellet mixture, but some are UL listed for many fuels other than pellets. These can include wheat, corn, sunflower seeds, and cherry pits.

Pellet stoves are a bit more efficient, burn cleaner, and are easier to use than conventional wood burning stoves. Pellet stoves often look very similar to wood stoves or fireplace inserts, however the similarities end there.

If you are considering burning alternative fuels then you will want to look into a pellet stove as a great way to heat your home. Pellet stoves and pellet insets have many great advantages over regular wood stoves that make them a practical heat for busy lifestyles.

My stove keeps going out on E2 and shuts down why

The E-2 Error code indicates an automatic shutdown because the stove does not detect a fire. Check out Englander's troubleshooting guide to some of the causes.

Poor draft on savannah woodstove

Drolets are a real pain at times. Don't buy their pellet stove. Check your stove pipe to insure its clean and not blocked. This includes spark arrestor. Is you stove cap 2' higher than anything 10' away from pipe? Refer to install manual. If you are not getting an y back draft issues with smoke inside house you may need to add on a section of trip wall pipe at the top.

I'm installing a wood stove insert with a 6" flu. Can I use a 5" or 5.5" chimney liner and be ok? Thanks in advance. Jacob Ullucci

If the stove exhaust pipe is 6", you need to have a minimum of 6" all the way up your chimney. If you use a smaller pipe you will limit your flow, which causes excess cooling and crystalizing of smoke creating more creosote, and more of a chance for chimney fire. The perfect solution would be to run a 6" liner down your chimney, and connect it right to the top of your insert. Make sure you install a top plate at the top of the chimney to insure pieces don't fall outside the liner. Lastly install a stainless steel cap to keep any animals out.

Quadra Fire Pellet stove-will not ignite

I own a Quadrafire pellet stove. I have had this thing for 10 yrs. It seems every year at the start of the season I have some kind of problem. I clean it at the end of the season completely. First couple of burns are fine then get a good cold day and it doesn't work. All the gaskets, the exhaust blower, ignitor, glass front, and exhaust piping have had to be replaced. Now I have a blinking red light in the control box and cannot find anything on line to help. Does anyone know why this red light blinks 3 times every 10 seconds inside the control box? It's not the call for heat light. Think I may change to a wood burning stove to many headaches.

What do you need to do to put a woopellet stove pipe thru wall

I'm confused by your question. If you are asking what is involved in installing a pellet stove well it varies greatly from model to model. Generally speaking, most pellet stoves will horizontally terminate behind the stove itself as opposed to running thru the roof like a woodstove does. Pellet stoves require the use of electricity for numerous functions, one of which is power venting thru this rear terminated pipe. As far as clearances to combustables, you will find that pellet stoves are very forgiving in that department, with minimal clearances required. Once again all stoves are different and they all are rated indepentently so my best advice to you is find a quality pellet stove dealer and go in and see them. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. Avoid the big box stores as they have pellet stoves at a good price but offer NO service or installation and believe me, I am in the business, you will need professional service at some point during the life of your stove so don't save a couple bucks by going cheap. You will be happier for it down the road. Good luck.
