Question about Linksys (WIFIDESKTOP) Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Cannot connect anymore

I can't seem to connect my laptop to wireless anymore. It just quit one day. It seems as if all the drivers are working correctly but it doesn't connect. I have a linksys router and my computer runs intel pro/wireless 2200bg wireless connection as the driver. Has been fine for a couple of years and now just won't connect to anything. It says that the driver is working fine but some it up because it never connects.

Does the router work with the wired port connection? It's entirely possible that the router just went belly-up on you ...Linksys is an awesome brand, but sometimes it happens.

If the wired part works, the wireless transmitter inside may have gone bad. Best to just get a new one for about $50 ...but keep the old one in case you need a wired connection somewhere else around the house :)

Limited connectivity

Limited connectivity (this phrase occurs first inside the WIN 8 OS) means, that you have connection with your router already, but NOT to the internet. Pls. check, if you have access to internet from other computers or smartphone connected via the same router.
If so, sometimes a driver-update for your D-Link could be useful.
Check also, if other wireless adapters are working with the same frequency, this may disturb. Try to change the channel or change from 2,4 GHz to the 5 GHz Channels, if the router & your D-Link Adapter will support this.
I had the same problem with my WIN 8 - PC and I had to change the (wireless) radio-channel.

It's been isolated that the problem is coming from the wireless adapter on your laptop since other pc works fine. Try updating the driver on your wireless adapter and see if that will resolve your intermittent connection.

  1. uninstall everything, delete all previous settings files. clean the regestry with a reg cleaner or manually then restart.

Then try installing it and create new settings. Just before you clean everything,
I suggest you take notes of all the values of all the fields so that you can re- create.
          2. get the latest drivers, if you can.

If you still have trouble, go to the vendor.

Laptop cannot connect to router with WPA-PSK security

What I believe here is you are not typing in the pass-phrase(wireless password) correctly.

Go to 192.168.1.1 log on to the router ,in wireless section you will find the pass phrase,, create a new one and then try to connect.

Can not connect

It is possible that your windows update messed up the Linksys drivers. If your pc is xp, download the latest drivers from www.linksys.com/download. uninstall the wpc54g on the add/remove programs.

if using XP, reinstall drivers only, no need to install the linksys software. This would be best if you install the drivers manually. After this you will be using only the WINDOWS UTILITY for your wireless connection.
