Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller

1 Answer

Xbox 360 controller won't work with rechargable battery packs

My girlfriend recently bought a new but opened 360 controller off eBay that won't work with known good rechargeable battery packs but works fine with AA batteries loaded in the battery holder. All the connectors look clean and undamaged. Any ideas why or if it can be fixed? I was just wondering if we needed to try to send it back.

I have two controllers and two rechargeable battery packs. One controller works with either battery pack. The other controller works with neither battery pack. How do I solve this?

Controller works fine with AA batterys - when I put in a charged battery pack when I press and hold the guide button nothing happens.

The battery pack works fine in other controllers.

  2. Press and hold the Guide button on the controller until the controller turns on.

  1. When the lights surrounding the power button on the console stop flashing, the controller is connected.
On the Xbox 360 S console, each connected controller is assigned to one of four positions. Each position corresponds to a lighted section around the console power button and the controller Guide button. On the 360 E console, a solid green light on the front of the console indicates that the controller is connected. To determine the player position associated with your accessory, look at the ring of light that surrounds the Guide button on the controller.

You can also use the Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit or the Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit to power the controller. Learn more about Xbox controllers and chargers.
To connect additional controllers, follow these same steps again. You can connect up to four controllers to the console. Each connected controller is assigned a position that corresponds with the lighted sections that appear around the console's power button and around the Guide button located in the middle of each controller.
  • To disconnect a wireless controller, press and hold the Guide button for three seconds, and then choose to turn the controller off.
  • When you turn off the console, the controller will reconnect the next time you turn on the console.
  • The controller can be connected to only one console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different console, but the connection to the previously connected console will be lost.
Connect a wired Xbox controller

Wireless controller troubleshooting
If your wireless controller disconnects or cannot connect to your console, see Xbox 360 Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect.
If your wireless controller does not turn on or loses power, try the following solutions:
Solution 1: Replace the batteries
Insert a new set of AA alkaline batteries into the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, and then try to turn it on.
Solution 2: Try a different battery pack
If you have another Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, take the battery pack off that controller and attach it to your controller. Then try to turn your controller on.
If your controller works with the different battery pack, your original battery pack might be defective. If your controller is under warranty, you can order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support . See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
If your controller is out of warranty, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store.
Solution 3: Try a rechargeable battery packIf you or a friend has an Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack, attach that battery pack to your controller and try to use your controller. If your controller works with the rechargeable battery pack attached, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store or order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.

Wireless Xbox 360 controller dying right after connecting, what gives?

Sadly aleksander you have been done for. It is common knowledge that controllers bought from China are just copies that have far worse perfromance than other 3rd party ones even. It is because they use cheaper parts to make them.

I know they look offical but they never are. I would think you did not pay very much for them? They will not work. Just save a bit of money and get a few used offciall ones form someone on ebay then give them a good clean when you get them.

My xbox 360 wireless controller won't turn on

If it has a rechargeable pack on it try swapping it out with a "AA" battery pack. sometimes the rechargeable batteries can go bad. If the controller still won't turn on then you have an internal problem and you will need a new controller. :)
Or you can try getting your controller fixed, although there in not very many people that are willing to work on controllers

My black 360 controller with a rechargable battery, has been having 4 major problems, 1. It started disconnecting while playing Halo Reach and after. 2. My controller was not able to charge any...

Rechargeable batteries will only hold so many charges before they finally die. The controller should be fine, but your battery pack has finally died. You can get new rechargeable packs on Amazon pretty cheap, but don't buy any that seem too good to be true (like the $0.01 ones) because they are old inventory and have lost the ability to charge as well.
I think they run about $15-$20 for a new one, but it's still a better deal than needing new batteries every time your controller dies since the rechargeable ones can last for at least a couple years.

it seems like the charge cable isnt charging the pack. have u tried using an alternate charging method like a charge stand? or try on another controller, if it still doesnt work on another controller, its your charge cable.

My Xbox 360 wireless controller battery pack broke!

Well as you probably know all there is to a rechargable battery pack from xbox is 2 generic batteries that connect to the plate that connects to your controller. I recently took mine apart to try and fix it because it was not working at all. If you still have the original battery case that takes the AA batteries i would go out and buy a rechargable battery base and charge the cheap *** batteries that xbox uses in their packs. Then use the batteries that came out of the pack and put them in the original harness. Or you could just use the ones you buy.

Alkalines won't work in my 360 controller.

there are units designed to run on rechargeable batteries and some that run on alkaline batteries
the difference is the current draw required
alkaline batteries have a high discharge rate available but for short duration while the others have a smaller discharge rate but over a longer period of time
you should only use the type of batteries recommended for the unit
