Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have a 1997 BMW R110RT Motorcycle with the radio option. My battery failed and I had to replace it. After this it was necessary to imput the security code to reactivate the radio. Problem is that one of the degits will not imput to complete the code. I need to get the radio repaired or if possible replace with something modern. Unit has the volume and station selection as a remote from the handle bars.

OK That is kind of what I though. How how do I retrofit a new model radio and make it work with the remote handle bar controls? What type of radio will work in this circumstances?

In most cases it's often more costly to repair it than to replace it. the only way you can save costs on repair is if you do the work yourself or have a buddy that knows how to do it, otherwise the labor costs are just not worth it. please rate this

when you pruchase the radio you can also get a harness plug that will match the cycle to the radio. you can generally go to an electronic store for this or a car audio or bike shop for the plug. this way you don't have to hard wire anything just unplug and plug the new deck with the adapter plug into the main harness and the remote on the handle bars will work just fine. just be real specific on what bi9ke you have and what the new stereo will be and they will match it. please rate this......thanks if you need to ask me anymore question to this post are some other problems just click on my user tab. good luck

No spark already replaced coil an brain box

Hi, Mike if you have a CKP sensor it needs compression to send the correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in the head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

Why engine could not start after a long parking?

Hi, Christian if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition.
1. If your battery was 3 years or older when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or better, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper load test on the battery and replace as necessary, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and replace the battery.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
6. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
8. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

Hi, Louis and the usual suspects are:

1. A severely drained battery.

2. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.

3. Faulty main circuit breaker and or connections.

4. Faulty ignition coil and or connections.

5. Faulty spark plug, oil or gas fouled, wrong heat range or service type, wrong gap, loose in the cylinder head, broken electrode or insulator.

6. Faulty spark plug cables, leaking or broken, internal damage.

7. Faulty ignition module, switch, CKP, MAP, CMP, sensor and or any connector in the ignition circuit could have corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets

Hi, Lylespears for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue.
