I have purchased the Lexmark X 4550 today. I have installed the program, but I have a problem with the scan mode. When I press scan mode the message on the control panel reads: Downloading application list, but after a minute the message reads: cannot retrieve application list.
Also on my c.p. screen I get the following message:
Device monitor application has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I rang Adam on 1300 362 192 and tried to explain the problem. He was very helpful but it is difficult over the phone to get a clear picture.

My problem is much the same as the writer. When I put my Lexmark X4530 in scan mode, the display reads, "Retrieving Application List," but after a few seconds, it says that it can't find the application list and is won't let me scan.

you know some of the operating system if there is a corrupted file or dll some of the printers, USB and other devices in-counter this kind of problem you need to fix first your operating system then after that remove your printer driver and re-install again then then try to scan again..... hope this solution help you...

From the home screen, navigate to Scan to Computer: Scan > Scan to Computer

Touch USB-Connected Computer or the name of a network computer. The local or
network computer is the destination that will receive the scan. Wait until the
printer has finished downloading a list of the scan applications available on
the selected computer.

Select an application (in your case your email), and then touch Accept.
4.
Select the color, resolution quality and the original image size. If necessary,
touch Accept each time you make a selection.
5.
Press the start button to start scanning. The scan is complete when the application you selected
in step 4 opens on the destination computer, and the scan appears within the
application as a new file.
To scan to your computer using the printer software (Lexmark Printer Home):
For Windows:
1.
Click Start.
2.
Click All Programs or Programs, and then select the printer program folder from
the list.
3.
Select Printer Home.
4.
Choose your printer from the printer drop-down list.
5.
Click Email, and then select Photo, Document or PDF.
Note:
You can select Document only if an OCR application is stored on your computer.
Scanning starts and the scan progress dialog appears.
6.
When the scan
is finished, a new e-mail message is created with the scanned document
automatically attached.
7.
Compose your e-mail message. Note: If your e-mail program does not open
automatically, then you can scan the document to the computer and then send it
through e-mail as an attachment.
For
Mac:
1.
From the Finder desktop, double-click the printer program folder.
2.
Double-click the printer Center to open the All-In-One Center.
3.
From the "What is being scanned?" menu on the main screen, select a document
type.
4.
From the "How will the scanned image be used?" menu, choose To be viewed on
monitor/web page.
5.
From the "Send scanned image to" menu, choose an application.
6.
Click Scan.
7.
Retrieve the scanned image from the application, and then send it through
e-mail as an attachment.

help me on how can i install lexmark because i unstall it
"Device monitor application problem . . . . . . " is a wellknown often occuring problem for extremely many Lexmark owners - why don't the producer -Lexmark - not render the solution to this problem once and for all ??? The problem is NOT bedded in XP or Vista ! ! but in Lexmarks software . . . .
