Yes! I have done this often, but be prepared to use a similar mb/cpu and run repair if you run xp or re install. you just need similar form factor - more true now than on older mb's If you have a T-Board or one with a bus plane-(cards insert parallel to mb} - forget it. most use micro atx or atx

Hi Compaq 323091001 Motherboard failed in my Compaq d330 desktop. What are some suitable replacement motherboards ? Tony

Hate to tell you, but I just searched on my usual sites and I couldn't find a motherboard that would work. Main concerns:
socket 478 (only found two boards with this) ddr memory (no boards with this) intel 865g chipset (again no boards with this)
Last but not least- most likely a non OEM motherboard is not going to fit inside the tower you currently own. Usually HP/Compaq/Dell use odd motherboard mounting screw locations so you cant just put any motherboard in.
You may be better off buying a new PC.

Wen i upgraded memory on hp 708 pc all i get now

possible cause of this issue is that the memory module you purchase is not compatible with the motherboard. e.g if you old memory is 1Gig DDR2 667mhz you should purchase a 667mhz memory also if you will still be using the old memory. you cannot use memory with different speed.

I've been told my Compaq Presario f730us needs motherboard. Before I attempt to repair/replace motherboard: how do I know if the CPU is still good from old motherboard is still good? the cpu will need to...

If your PC still boots initially it means your processor is still working but if your PC is in blackout mode its possible that its your processor or your motherboard is damaged...better do a little troubleshooting first and write the detailed problem of your PC..If they suggest you changed the board it means your processor might still be working..
as long as the parts are compatible with the model of your laptop you have nothing to worry about..hope this helps..ITTech7574

Where do u find out what type of motherboard u have? I have a compaq amd duo core and the vga went out and it is attached to the motherboard. help

The motherboard should be labeled with the manufacturer and model.

Do you get any video at all when you boot? Do you see the BIOS prompts or a Compaq logo?

You could always install a video card and forget about the MB video.

If you comment back with your computer model number we could possibly make some suggestions.

Which graphics em i soppose to install that is competable

do u mean what graphics driver or graphics card.. most motherboards have a built in graphics chip integrated into the motherboard. Many HP and Compaq PCs do not have an AGP or PCI Express (PCI-E) slot on the motherboard and therefore it's not posible to add a graphics card

Compaq 332857-001 Motherboard

No, your motherboard is rather old and it takes DIMM modules, not DDR as the panel may say. You should look for PC100 dimm modules. Usually you are limited to 128mb per module or maybe you can try 256mb modules.
