I found the owners manual but still can't get them to work properly.
When they are on the same channel I can't get them to transmit, but when they are on the MON they transmit but the reception is terrible.

The Monitor "mon" button is to be used simply to see if others are talking on the same frequency as you. It is a "polite" rule of the FCC. All radios have the "mon" feature. It is not intended to be a continual form of communications. It typically will give a "white sound" noise when depressed.

If you are needing to press the "mon" button to communication, you do not have your interference eliminator code set properly. Re-read how to set this code, and you should solve your problem.

Also, watch the setting of the Qt filter. For best results set it to zero.

I have a set of Motorola T5720 walkie Talkies. I cannot determine if one of them is not receiving or the other is not transmitting.

One radio works properly, the other can receive. I assume there are more than two by the question. Check and then rotate you batteries, mark on the working unit battery that it is GOOD. Transmit takes a great deal more power than receiving. Batteries, even un-used only last 18-24 months typically. If no joy, then check your programming but I think that is unlikely. It really sounds like a power/battery issue.

When turned on, the screen stays red and you can't do anything

You might try contacting Giant Intl. 1-800-638-5119,
giantintl@callcenter.com. They produce the radio for Motorola and are able to troubleshoot over the phone or by email. I have read through the manual and did not find anything pertaining to this problem. http://shop.giantintl.com/Manuals.asp

When I place the walkie talkie in the charger base, the light indicator does not come on. I've put new batteries in the walkie talkies. Also, on another walkie talkie, it constantly shuts off when I...

Generally when a radio shuts off when you press the PTT button it is a sign of a bad or poorly charged battery. It takes more energy to transmit than to receive. The fact you have a charge which the light does not come on indicates you have a bad charger or bad connection between the radio and/or battery and the charger. Clean your battery contacts (on both radio and charger) with a pencil eraser and see if it clears up the problem. If not, you have either a battery or charger problem.

Best regards.

Will the walkie talkie charge while turned on and left in the cradle? These are brand new models.

Not efficiently. It would take 3-4 times as long to get a full charge, as the energy is depleting nearly as fast as it is charging. The good news is most FRS radios will go up to 18 hours on a charge. Think of the charger as the radio's bed. When you go to bed, put the radio to bed too.

Best regards.
