Dell 962 Printer cartridge error 1203.

I have new cartridges in it and it still doesn't work. What do I do?

    bought new colour cartridge direct from DELL - so authentic cartridge - blasted printer keeps telling me the cartridge is missing - please install one!

    I keep putting in the new color cartridge( Dell) and it says right cartridge

    incorrect! This is the same way I have put these in for years and the

    same cartridge! HELP! The new black one went in the same way

    and works! It's driving me crazy!

    I have the same problem occurring on same date. Is this a 45 year old Kennedy conspiracy? Seriously, why? Been using this for 4-5years, replacing cartridges from Dell online and Staples. Suddenly, after a couple of months in use with plenty of ink remaining, I'm getting 'right cartridge incorrect' incorrect and no printing. Error # 1203. I thought I had wrong print cartridge series for color. Is there a dormant defect awakening after 5 years?

    I ordered last week 2 new original black and color cardridges and the black is working but for the colored I get the same error code 1203.

    The delivery of the cardridges was superfast but thats all I can say about them.

    After all this time with our new Dell 962 printer, we finally quit the habit of buying new cartridges. [wish we could kill that pop-up too, but that's another question, eh?] So, we went to a Walgreens and refilled a couple of black and one color cartridge. Don't forget, these inks were working fine just a few minutes ago....Well, we used the black ones first, for weeks. Worked perfect, but from the start, the 962 says the ink levels were low (each & every blasted time you crank the printer up %$#!@). Next, changed the color. Only prints the light blue. Cleaned ink & ran all troubleshootments. Now, the blasted thing is telling us we don't have a color ink installed.

    Can someone let us know all know what to do? We grovel to Thee!

    I have the right cartridge message on my Dell 962 printer. I've had it for years and it just started doing this last month. I keep going through the steps of cleaning the cartridges and unplugging the machine. One time it worked for a while, but then the stupid message came back. I just put an old color photo cartridge in and it is printing; so it is the cartridge. I will be calling Dell to see if they will replace it now that I know this is a common thing. I'm glad I ran across this site. I don't feel so alone now.

    Yup.... I have the same "1203" prob as the rest of ya. I have had this printer for years.... i've always run the color dry and just used the black ink, occasionally replacing the color. But recently i've not replaced the color for about six months and it will begin to print a page in black and then interupt itself with the stupid 1203 error.... after reading this site, it looks like this is dell's way of forcing me to buy the color cartridge as well!!! Those greedy bastards!!!

    i keep getting error message allignment problems, try removing cartridge and make sure protective tape is off. I did this, even put 2 more new cartridges in, same problem. any suggestions?

I posted this initial problem....and now, here's how I believe it works....but don't quote me!! Dell has some sort of electronic thingy on the top of the cartridge underneath the label. I pulled one off to try and refil it. Refil it I did....but the printer was having none of it saying that I was out of ink. So...that is when I bought brand new fresh cartridges from Dell. As of my initial posting - I couldn't get the new colour cartridge to work ... so emailed Dell who said it was a faulty cartridge and sent another one the next day....it worked perfectly. THEREFORE.....I summise...that once you buy a Dell printer....you are buggered - basically. You have to buy direct from them. I have gone on ebay and other shops..and bought refilled ones...buy they either don't work...or the quality is rubbish. Subsequent printers that I have bought - or will buy...will be anything other than Dell! Sorry if that doesn't sound very positive...likewise if anyone does find a way rough this.....let me know....as lumbered with this printer now till it totally breaks down....then can buy a new one (not Dell!)

Another frustraded, Dell purchased, Dell ink purchased 1203 error code customer. Seems the only solution is to throw it out the window

Error 1203 on a Dell 962 all in one


Hi,

Your ink cartridge contacts are dirty or that your ink overflowed.. you should take the cartridge out and with a kleenex carefully wipe off the contacts on the cartridge and in the holder and reinstall and realign the cartridges.You also need to wipe down the cartridge caddy sensors. If the problem persists, try another cartridge ( new ). If that does not solve the problem, then unfortunately, you need to send the printer to Dell for a sensor replacement.

Just had black cartridge filled. got error message I thing 1203. tookout cartriges and replaced them again. lost all power. unplugged from wall and adapter in back of printer for a minute. plugged back in...


First remove the cartridge and try to switch on the printer.
The error code 1203 is shown if its faulty shortened cartridge.
Printer identify such sort of cartridges as overfilled one.

Dell All-in-One Printer Cartridge Error 1203.
There is a short in the cartridge you have. You need to cover a copper contact on the color cartridge the error clears and the cartridge works. Looking from the contact side for the color cartridge 2nd row contact 2 from the left. Use a SMALL square piece of Scotch tape to cover that contact. If you need more help let me know thanks

Managed to get rid of error 1203 message. Now repeatedly getting install colour cartridge into righthand side. I've done this (repeatedly) but it's not recognising the cartridge

Enter the time, date and language, the press the Select button.
