Bought my PS3 from a pawn shop and it's a retail store version, and it's stuck in the demonstration mode. Is there a way to reprogram the system or to just reset it to get it out of the demonstration mode? Reply here or to my email address CJQuikk1@yahoo.com Tanks in advance for your help.
There is no way to remove it it is a stoleing unit you by only stroe unils have demo mode on them sony puts in on there so the stores can give preview of what system can do and you can try it out allretail sysatems do not come in demo mode so yours was stoleing only thing you can do si see if pawn shop willgive money back if not your stuck with it as if sony finds out you have one they will press charges or just take system and not give back
now depending on what demo mode your runing there are codes to unlock them each time you use system jsut search for unlocking codes online

Re: PS3 stuck in the demo mode
I think you need to call sony I know online there have been a few people who say they know how but out of the 400+units I have fixed I have never had one of these!
TAKE IT BACK TO THE PAWN AND TELL THEM THEY SOLD YOU A **** UNIT!

this is what i've found "I successfully updated my legitimately-purchased "demo" PS3 via
Ethernet to demonstration firmware 2.10 after entering the password
"5202". However, please note that this is STILL demonstration firmware
and must be unlocked at EVERY power-on. (Oddly, the password changed to
2464 after the update.)
Even then, many features, including the PlayStation Store and
folding@home, are blocked!! After exhaustive research and effort,
including replacing and rezeroing the hard drive (no effect),
attempting to update via CF and Memory Stick ("No Valid Update info
found"), and physical examination of the logic board itself for a reset
button or removable jumper (no such luck), I concluded that there is no
practical way to do it. The Samsung NAND flash firmware chip is
soldered, not socketed, so essentially not replaceable without
extremely delicate work (assuming one could find a replacement chip
anyway!)." You cant really do anything at this point. return it to the store and get a refund.
From everything I have been able to find, a unit that has demo mode on it, is never supposed to be used for retail consumption. Those modes are only for actual demo models in stores. I reviewed alot of information trying to find this out, but it appears that there is no way around this.
and the ps3 will be unlocked from demo mode. but be aware that this will only be for a couple of minutes. so make sure you have the latest firmware the not demo one but the ordinary from the playstation site on a removable storage media something like a memory stick or flash drive
so you can update immediately after unlocking you ps3! only this way you can completely unlock your system!!
