Question about Olympus FE-140 Digital Camera
Hello, My daughter's Olympus FE-140 camera gives a card cover open error. It appears that the switch operated by the battery compartment door has broken/fallen off and is missing. Is there any way to repair this switch... bypass the switch with a copper wire? It is difficult to tell how the switch worked because it is missing.
The switch is a micro switch that is depressed(and not sad :)) by a plastic tag moulded on the battery cover. Once the cover is moved into position and closed, the tag presses on the micro switch closing the switch and thus removing the error message. As with any switch, a switch is simply open or closed, Open = high resistance or O/L, while closed = 0 ohms reistance. You can use a small wire to overcome the switch by soldering the wire to both tags of the switch so it is permenantly 0 ohms. This will send a message to the microprocessor that cover is closed and camera ready for use. Hope this helps.

My Olympus Stylus 9000 camera fell. Now the battery/card compartent door will not close allowing the camera to turn on.... I think I may need to place the door? I am not sure why it will not close.... Possibly something broke off????

I had exactly the same problem, the tiny little plastic tag on the battery cover which operates the switch fell off, (its very flimsy) but fortunately I managed to find it and put it back in place.
Instead of soldering copper into your camera, you could try to wedge a bit of plastic into where that plastic tag would normally fit. That may work.
