Hi im Josh and i have a ps3 and i want the internet on it. my ps3 is new and so is my internet.
i have a wired connection with an ethernet cable and i know how to plug all that in but i dnt know how to set the internet up.
like i dnt know wat an ip address is or anything.
i need steps on how to set it up. and since its new i might need to go to custom setting.
please help i dnt know wat to do.
First off when you plug in your ethernet cable to the PS3 before you turn it on unplug your modem for like 2 mins after you plug it back in wait about 1 min then power on your PS3 then look for something that says create user, or new account you should be able to just hit X on it and it will walk you through all the steps. you will need a valid email address. if you still can not get it then your user guide that came with your PS3 should tell you just how to do everything. if you dont have a user guide then go on www.us.playstation.com and on the top right hand corner of the screen is a "search playstation" type in user guide and it will give you an online user guide. good luck
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

1, wireless, make sure that you have an internet connection first with a computer and that you know your network name and password (if you have one set up). Go into the PS3 menu and scroll to the network config section, and set up a new network, where it says SSID this is the name of your network, for example SKY1234. Then it will ask you for a encryption type, for example WPA or WEP and then your password, input your password and let the PS3 do the rest, if there is anything wrong it will tell you.
2, wired through an ethernet cable, again go to the network config section in the PS3's menu and set a wired connection, it will not ask you for your SSID or password as its a wired connection.
If you need anymore help or advice please feel free to post back.
Goto the command prompt bar in the start menu type ' cmd ' then click o.k . A black dos screen will appear type in ' ipconfig/all ' and it will the the two servers you need under dns servers but if your doing a wired connection to your ps3 then you need to manually configure your dns on the custom method of setting up your internet connection on your ps3 as if this is auto config that will give you a dns error. Hope that helps ,I can go into more detail and guide you through it if need to .
A cable modem & a router are two different things. You can pick up a "Cisco 'EtherFast' cable/DSL" (wired or wireless) router at Wal Mart for $35. But you need both a modem & router to get your PS3 up & running on the web. Once you get on, you'll need to set up a "PlayStation" account. Unlike the Xbox 360 Live network, PlayStation is free of charge. It's a very user-friendly interface, so you shouldn't have any problems there. Cisco will give you live customer service to walk you through hooking up your router. Please let me know you make out. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. Good luck, bro.
If your PS3 is Networked upto Your PC to use the internet connection, You have to allow the PC to share its Internet connection with yout PC, Do this By going into Network settings, Checking the properties of your LAN card in your PC. and clicking on, "share my internet". This should alleviate that problem..
If your PS3's Wired connection isnt working. but your PC one is, Try moving your PS3 Lan cable into one of the other Free LAN Ports (if available) or Try Switching the PC cable over to the PS3's Port in the Router, and Visa-Versa !
Hi philly - If this fixes your problem please rate as fixed. PLEASE wait til your fixed. Are you runnimg your pc wired? Check to make sure that your IP connection is set to obtain ip automatically and obtain DNS server automatically. What's your operating system please/ Thanks.
First you need to find a Windows wired or wireless device already connected to the network in order to find out the required settings
Windows XP 1. Click start --> (sometimes settings) --> Control Panel --> Network Connections 2. Double click on the active connection which will say connected underneath 3. Click Support 4. Click Details 5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.
Windows Vista 1. Click Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center 2. Click on "View Status" to the right of your connection 4. Click Details 5. Now the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Alternate DNS which are displayed should be noted.
Set these values under "manual settings" in the PS3 but add 1 to the last number for the IP Address as this has to be unique on your network
the Ps3 should connect fine, if you have your wired router set up right to automatically assign ip addresses...(DHCP)..in otherwords, anyone who comes over with a computer from anywhere..even me..should be able to plug a lan cable in to your router and it should connect without changing any settings. If this is true, then you should be able to go into your settings menu, select wired connection type, hook up your lan cable...then select auto and east for the settings for ethernet. this should work, if any pc works. If not, you may have to call AOL for info on how to properly configure your router and PS3. The network issue is most likely a AOL issue, and not a PS3 issue.
