Question about Gateway 510 X Peak Performance (510XPP) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Ram memory First my thanks to Eagle338,Wayneard and the fixya team for their kind help with my previous problem on this computer. Now, the Gateway 510x has 4 memory slots. Two white lock tab slots and two black lock slots. It came with two 256 sticks in the white slots. I tried to upgrade the memory with 1gb sticks. Nothing worked. Finally I put one stick in the black forward slot and it worked. No other combination of any sort would work only one stick. Specs say can use 3 to 3.5 for 32 bit. This is a Pentium 4 duo core. Thanks!

None of the configurations worked for me while trying to upgrade my wife's 510x. The only configuration that works is to have the original 256MB sticks in the original slots. I wish I would have found this post before I wasted my money on 2 1GB sticks

I recently upgraded the memory in a Gateway desktop with a similar configuration as your. If you only had two of the four memory slots filled before you attempted to upgrade, those two originally used slots must be filled first before you add memory to either one or both of the other two slots. As far as the maximum amount of memory that can be used in each slot, I would need more specific information on your computer. My suggestion at this point is that you either refer to your manual if you have one, or if you do not have a manual, you can access this information online. I was just on Gateway's web site but for your specific information on memory upgrade I would need either a more accurate model number or, what would be best is the serial number of your machine. You seem to be fairly knowledgeable about computers so the easiest would be for you to access Gateway's web site. Once you are on their site go to "support", then go to "my support". You will be prompted to enter your serial number at this time. This page should give you all the information that you need. Listed there should be the maximum amount of memory for the system and also the maximum amount of memory per slot. For example, if the maximum memory of the system is 4 GB, the maximum per slot would be 1 GB. The easiest for you, and what I did on my recent upgrade, would be to leave the existing two pieces of 256 MB in their original slots and purchase two more, 1 Gigabyte pieces and use those in the previously unused slots. You would be under the maximum that you could use in your system but adding 2 GB will improve the performance a great deal and you would not waste the memory that was originally installed.

Hi there,

1. Remove unnecessary cables like sata power and sata cable while troubleshooting your computer. our goal is to boot with display replug the cables later. check Atx 4 pin if plugged properly.

2. Clear CMOS button or short jumper 2-3.

3. Remove CMOS battery wait 5-10 seconds press the power button, before you put it back.

4. Put only one memory instead of two try different dims until you have display, change memory if it failed to come up. remove power cord when plugging the memory.

5. Still no display, test your Team Elite Ram to another machine or bring your system unit to your seller test everything.

6. Is your Team DDR3-1333 ELITE TED34096M1333C9 model because Team has many variants and the 4GB Shuttle have mentioned is that one.

Hopefully this information helps.

Thanj you for using FIxYa.

Ram assurance

The schematic layout of the P5VDC-MX on the user manual shows that there are 4 DIMM banks, set as 2 X 2 rows, 2 DDR2 and 2 DDR.

The user manual explicity states:
cbae7ab.jpg

I am running different frequency modules without any problems. With the info above provided by ASUS, it may be possible that a fix could be available with a BIOS update. Otherwise, you can opt to use a lower capacity RAM along with your 1GB Corsair.

Hope this helps.

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Max memory is 2GB, i.e. 1GB per slot(DIMM), so you will need 2 X (SimpleTech 1 GB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM). {Always use matched pairs only}

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Upgrading RAM on your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer is easy, Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer takes the PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR. RAM Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of RAM.
You can upgrade your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer to up to a maximum of 2.0 GB RAM, the Computer has 4 sockets to install RAM, already with 512 MB (removable) standard RAM installed. For best Computer performance use the maximum amount of allowed RAM per slot for your system.

How to increase my pc speed

You have to upgrade your RAM. 512MB is the minimum. Also you can increase the virtual memory. To do this right click on mycomputer, click properties, click on settings button that is next to performance, Click on virtual memory and then click on change. Set the value to 512. This will speed up your computer a little but stil upgrading your RAM is the best bet.
Regards,
Eagle338.
