Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

CCU location Hi JS Rock, remember me? I am still trying to fix my Elite washer. My husband took the front lower panel off this morning to do the testing you recommended on the wiring harness. THE CCU is on the left , correct? There are only 3 wires to it; a black, blue and a pink . Is this the right place? You mentioned the 6th connector to the left and so on but we can't find all those connectors. Also, we took the pump drain apart and removed some debris ( not much and it wasn't stinky like so many have reported) . We have seen much on " Your 3 Cents Worth" abouts stinky colored towels which we have, so thought we better check the drain out. I did 3 loads yesterday with no problems but I KNOW that F11 is going to happen againso wanted to check the connectors as you suggested. We sincerely appreciate your help on this recurring problem....Phoebe112

Yep, I remember you. Sorry to hear you're still battling with your washer. No...the CCU is directly behind the wash tub at the TOP of the washer. You will need to remove the top panel of the washer by removing the three screws in the rear. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then off. The CCU should stick out like a sore thumb once you get the panel removed. The circuit card you are describing at the moment is the Motor Control Unit (MCU). Let me know if you still need assistance.

F20 Error Code on Whirlpool Duet & Kenmore Elite Front Loader Washers

This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F20” error code.

"F20" is a No Water Detect error. It is an indication that you either have no water coming into the washer, or very little water at all. If the pressure switch has not tripped after 6 minutes, the error code is displayed. This can be a potential problem with the following:

If you have NO water in the wash tub, check the following:

- Inlet water valve may be clogged. Clean inlet screens if necessary.
- Make sure water taps are on.
- Check inlet hoses for kinks or clogs.

If you HAVE water filling the wash tub, check the following:

- Make sure you don't have a siphoning problem. Click the following link for instructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r587481-prevent_washer_siphoning

- Verify Drain Pump operation.
- Verify the Pressure Switch hoses are intact and connected properly.

- Verify wire harness connections at the pressure switch, inlet valves, drain pump and Central Control Unit (CCU).

To access the Drain Pump - UNPLUG the washer and take the lower panel under the door off by removing the three screws under the bottom edge. HINT: Propping the front feet of the washer up can make access much easier. I use a couple small blocks of wood. With the screws removed, the panel should drop down then come off. If it sticks, tap either side and it should come free. The pump is located directly under the wash tub in the front of the washer. Verify the electrical connections are good and that the pump is running. Click on the following link to check the pump for obstructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385845-checking_drain_pump_in_whirlpool_duet

To access the Pressure Switch – remove the three screws in the top panel along the back of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel should slide back, then, lift off. The pressure switch is located on the right-hand side of the washer in the rear. It is a round plastic device with electrical connections and a plastic air hose attached. Verify the electrical connections are intact, and the air hose is attached and not cracked or leaking.

To access the Central Control Unit (CCU) – with the top panel of the washer removed, the CCU is located directly behind, and just above the rear of the wash tub. There should be a tech sheet directly behind the lower panel or attached to one of the interior cabinet walls. Please refer to this sheet to learn how to perform diagnostics and to verify the wire connections at the CCU. In addition, the tech sheet will also assist in how to locate the components mentioned, and the specific measurements required determining if the components are good or bad.

I hope this helpful. Please refer to my profile and use the “Ask Me” feature if you require additional assistance.

My kenmore elite front load washer model # 110.46742702 displays code F 27. what does this mean?

"F27" is an Overflow Detect error code. The following link explains the code in detail and lists the steps to take to try to resolve:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608602-f27_error_code

A simple thing to try before assuming you have a component failure is to UNPLUG the washer for at least 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). In some situations these error codes can be erroneous and a simple CCU reset will correct the problem. If the error reappears following a CCU reset, then you have a legitimate problem that you will need to troubleshoot to resolve.

NOTE: Each one of these washers come with a technical data sheet enclosed inside the equipment cabinet. The tech sheet lists all error code definitions, diagnostic procedures, troubleshooting data and wiring diagrams. You may have to refer to the tech sheet to assist in troubleshooting this problem.

The tech sheet is located behind the lower toe panel directly below the washer door. To access, locate and remove the screws under the bottom front edge of the panel. For better access to the screws, you can prop the two front feet of the washer up with a 2x4. With the screws removed, the panel should drop down, then come off. The tech sheet will either be located directly behind the toe panel or affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Washing machine flashes f22 and door will not unlock

This is an indication of a door latch failure and/or interconnecting wiring problem. The first step in troubleshooting the problem is to unplug the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main "brain" of your washing machine. Sometimes these error codes are erroneous and can be easily cleared by resetting the CCU. If the error code reappears following a CCU reset, then you have a genuine problem.
In addition, if the door latch remains locked following this procedure, there is a manual release you can use to open the door. Follow these steps:

1. Remove the lower panel under the door by loosening the three screws under the bottom edge on the front of the washer. HINT: If you prop up the front feet of the washer with a 2 x 4, it makes access to the screws much easier.
2. With the screws removed, the lower panel should drop down then come off. If the panel sticks, a light tap on either side will knock it loose.
3. Reach your hand up inside the washer behind the front casing on the right-hand side. This is where the door latch assembly is located.
4. At the bottom of the door latch assembly is a small pull tab. This is the manual release for the door. Pull the tab straight down and the door will come open.

When I try to start my washer it beeps and flashes f then dl. I lost the owners manuel. What does this error message mean and how can I fix it?

The error codes are not listed in the Owner's Manual, they are listed in the Technical Data Sheet. "Fdl" is a door latch error code. This is an indication that the door latch is broken or the Central Control Unit (CCU), which controls the latch is not working properly. The technical data sheet that comes with the washer explains all the error codes, diagnostics steps and troubleshooting procedures on how to determine which component has failed. The tech sheet is located inside the washer behind the lower toe panel directly below the door. If not directly behind the toe panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls. To remove the toe panel, you need to locate and remove the screws under the bottom front edge of the panel. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down, then come off.

NOTE: For better access to the toe panel screws, you can prop the two front feet of the washer up. (A 2x4 works well for this).

Inspect the door of the washer to ensure the latch pin is intact and not broken. Then, inspect the latch mechanism on the front of the washer to ensure nothing is lodged inside. Last of all, remove the top and panel of the washer by locating the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. Locate the connector plugs that run between the CCU and the door latch. Unplug each connector (one at a time) and plug them back in to make sure they are seated properly and making good contact.

If you determine the latch is broken, the following link explains the steps necessary to replace it:

Getting fault code f14?

F14 = EEPROM Error

The Central Control Unit (CCU) receives it's data from an EEPROM on board the CCU.
If there is an error reading this data, it will cause this error.

A power glitch may cause this error. Try unplugging the Unit for two minutes to see if that fixes the error.
Check CCU

So its likely you'll need a new CCU board. Check your owners manual, some models have up to a 5 yr. parts warranty on that CCU.

Ordering CCU for kenmore elite 45986

Are you attempting to replace the Main Computer Microprocessor, or the User Interface? The Main Computer is located inside the washer behind the wash tub, while the User Interface is behind the control panel. The term CCU sometimes gets used interchangeably and I need to be sure.

It's easier to order parts directly from searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number (located around the door opening) and you will find both of the parts I mentioned under the "Control Panel" heading. If you wish to try a local Sears dealer in your area, you can use the part numbers provided by the Sears website.

I hope this helps you. Please post back if you need further assistance.

PS If you wish to compare pricing, you can also try repairclinic.com. Both sites get their parts from the same part source. They both offer comparible pricing with one or the other often having better deals.

Kenmore Elite He5t Washer Error F24

If it is not the plug at the bottom is ok and the temp. sensor is ok.Check the plug on the CCU on top mine was not even plugged in. When I plugged it in the washer started working. You have to take the top off to get to it,but it is easy. Three screws on the back top and the top will slide off easily. There is a troubleshooting manual in the front bottom panel on right side of panel. Page 10 troubleshoots the temp. sensor. The book gives you all the troubleshooting codes. The front panel comes off easily by unscrewing three screws on the very bottom of the panel.
