Have had for 8 years, redone once.
Unfortunately I cannot locate your problem or duplicate it. The various units that turn on the red "stop" light are the grounds container, the drip tray and the brew group. When they are reinstalled the light goes out . So if your brew group was stuck and you had to force it out then you should check very carefully that there are no cracks or breaks on the back. Remember this, the brew group must "click" into place and lock so that it does not move in and out unless the "Press" button is depressed. It is possible that one of the above switches that signals the motor to start is stuck, even if the red light is out, and not allowing the motor to turn on. I don't see the reason why your brew group was stuck to begin with. How did that happen?

don't know how it got stuck, but didn't force it, took screw out and came out easily. It won't click back into place now though. Could the brew group still be bad? Would bypassing the switches cause the motor to turn over again? thanks!
I don't see the screw that you mention and I cannot offer a solution either. But if the brew group is not seated and locked into place the machine will not start. I imagine that the brewing cycle was interrupted before it completed and that caused the brew group to be stuck and if it will not go back into placeand lock properly then the motor is not positioned properly. On the back of the brew group is a pointed piece that sticks out like an arrow head, this piece touches the switch for the group, is it there? On the coffee ground container and the drip tray there are similar pointed pieces that activate the switches for each. See if they are all there and if yes then probably you will have to find a technician to disassemple the thing and repair it . Not much left for a user to do.
