More than likely you can, but you need to make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements. If you had of listed your specific make and model of the system you are currently using, I would have been able to give you a definite yes/no answer. The minimum system requirements are as followings for vista home basic:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 512 MB of system memory
  • 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
  • CD/DVD rom drive.
  • Audio Output
  • Internet access
You can also use the following windows vista upgrade advisor from Microsoft to help in making this a more easier determination.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

I have Vista lab top hp and I need to upgrade to windows ten or do I have to do seven first

you have to have a previous system to up grade
there are problems with the upgrade with many questions to this site with problems associated with the up grade from incompatibility issues
it is better to get win 10 and download rather than up grade from an existing operating system

Tip

Which Windows Vista Edition are you?

If you are upgrading XP to Vista, make sure you backup and have the program "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor"

Download Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=42B5AC83-C24F-4863-A389-3FFC194924F8&displaylang=en

Be Sure to Backup with a removable media such as CD's, Floppy Disks or USB Flash Drives, External Hard Drivers.

Windows Vista Editions:

Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Ultimate
Windows Vista Starter
Windows Vista Enterprise

These also include 64-bit.

Lastly, if you have XP and if it's Vista Capable, you don't need to use the upgrade advisor, you are allowed to use any, but you must download the drivers after upgrade.

I down graded from vista to xp cant install drivers

Hello,

As for your problem Toshiba is not did not bother creating a Windows XP compatible drivers for the Model L500-018 as it is their high end Notebook for the year 2007 and discontinued it on 2009. what you can is to upgrade from Windows Vista Home to Vista Premium for more functionality and XP compatibility or upgrade to much better Windows 7 as the Vista drivers are accepted by windows 7 OS.

Hope this helps.

Describe your acer aspire 7735ZG drivers Problem drivers problem before with Vista now with XP Pro i could not load the right drivers still have problems after one year buying the laptop please let give me...

If you installed the customized(!) version of Windows that ACER supplies with each new ACER computer, namely Windows Vista Home Premium, you should have all of the correct device-drivers.

If you "down-graded" from that version of Windows to Windows XP, and some of the device-drivers are "missing", then I recommend that you reinstall Windows Vista, or purchase an "upgrade" to Windows 7.

You might try to access the manufacturer's web-site, via: http://www.Acer.com
to see if they support "down-grading" to Windows XP, and if they supply the needed device-drivers.

But, your BEST solution is to reinstall Windows Vista, and be sure to apply "Service Pack 2" to Vista, to bring it up-to-date.

Down grade windows 7 to xp pro on toshiba l505 s5990 need wifi and lan drivers

In my view, you should not downgrade Windows 7 to Windows Vista! Windows Vista is a freaky OS and don't support many software tools ! Later you will upgrade yourself! Try Windows XP, not Vista! :)

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....

Toshiba

If you upgraded from XP to Vista and didn't exceed the minimum system requirements for Vista, then that is why your laptop is "struggling to work". You should have done a compatibility check before the upgrade to see what upgrades you might have needed to install Vista, such as RAM (usually adding the maximum amount of RAM that your MotherBoard will accept/recognize will get you going with Vista. Otherwise to get your laptop back to speed you can reinstall XP (XP runs on a lot less resources than Vista requires). You mention a graphics card, and I can't imagine one that would require you to upgrade to Vista yet, though I could be wrong.
Good Luck.
