Question about Computers & Internet

Sony Vaio VGN FS4 15B Does not charge.

For ages my vaio would charge only if the charger was in a exact specific location. When this happened both the charger and the laptop got extremely hot. Also the charger did not fit into the socket at all and fell out at the slightest of movements. Another problem was that when the laptop did actually manage to charge it would take around 4 hours to reach 100% and 20 mins to completely deplete. Now, the laptop will not charge at all which is horrific as i am a student and all of my work is on it. how much about will it cost to fix? And how long should it take?
Many Thanks,
Jake

Hello Jake,
To be totally honest with you (as a repair technician), it sounds like you may need a new charger. It will be rather costly for you to take it to a repair place (unless it is under warranty) to have them fix it, because they are going to charge you anywhere from 25-75 dollars labor (depending on the difficulty of your problem) then charge you for parts (which again could be costly depending on what they have to replace). If I were you, I would consider cleaning the battery contacts with a pencil eraser first then replacing the batteries as this is the cheapest alternative and if that did not solve the problem then buy a new charger. Either way you will more than likely save money by purchasing new equipment vs paying someone to repair it. If you decide to purchase new equipment make absolutely sure that they are compatible with the system you have, because it should not fall out of the charger and it should not matter what position you have them in because everything should fit snuggly and properly.

If you do not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it, thanks. And please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi, own a Sony Vaio VGN P530H with hardisk Toshiba MK6028GAL damaged. as forced to replace unit, wonder could install a higher capacity? Brand & model if available please!!! thanks to all of you!!!

The VAIO VGN-T350 is a notebook computer designed and distributed by Sony.
The hard drive on your Sony VAIO VGN-T350, which is the unit that stores data, consists of many clusters of data that can be rewritten with new data.
If you are looking for a memory capacity upgrade, or if your old hard drive is having errors, it's time for an upgrade.
Upgrading the hard drive on your Sony VAIO will require the use of a screwdriver and will take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Turn off your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and remove the power cord and any other peripheral components.
Turn over your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and locate the hard drive chamber on the bottom of your laptop. It will be clearly labeled.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the lid in place.
Gently lift the hard drive and its cage away from your laptop and disconnect the data cord.
Remove the four screws located at the corners, and then remove your old hard drive from its cage.
Place your new internal laptop hard drive into the cage and replace the screws.
Connect the data cord to your new hard drive and place your new hard drive into its chamber.
Close the lid and replace the screw to complete the operation.

This might not be your specific laptop it might give you an insight into the hard drive installation.

Ebay this hard drive should fit there are smaller capacity drives that will be compatible.

Charging problem in sony vaio VGN-N220E

sounds more like your dc jack(where you insert your plug into the laptop ) is going bad. If you have a multimeter the first thing to test would be your charger to make sure it isnt faulty. If the charger is fine then it is most certainly the dc jack. Replacing the dc jack is best to be left to someone who specializes in that kind of repair but if you know how to solder it may be something that you can do yourself. click here for more info on dc jacks.

Normally this should be specified on the service tag at the bottom of the laptop, if the service tag had been removed it may be difficult to identify the exact model.
