Hi huc0,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: How to install the chtime wate overflow drain?

For me it's just a mater of looking carefully at the old one and duplicating it with new. If you start this and can't finish it you'll be without the use of this fixture til you can. It's not as easy as it looks. It can be very dificult to work under the tub from the access or from underneath. You may also need some special tools. For instance a sawzall, a tub shoe tool, a 12' channel locks etc. It's not the type of repair I recomend to the average homeowner. You might consider the Repair Directory for a reparman.

Tub overflows are not required in all states but I highly recommend drilling the hole and installing the proper waste and overflow drain I recommend the Gerber brand and also when you set the tub you need to set it in a light concrete for stability I use great stuff foam for setting tubs 2 cans spray on floor and set and level tub tub will never wobble or move

Good morning! My Kohler tub drain (original equipment - about 40 years) is beginning to shred itself. It appears to be a K-7145 or related popup drain. I've been pulling the screws out of the overflow and...

I can't really put my finger on the cause, but am quite familar with screws not wating to come out of the overflow.

When you finally do get the screws out, see if you can find suitable replacement stainless steel screws.

Get some "copper rich" antisieze from a plumbing shop or auto supply store and apply a little to the threads when you reinstall them (hopefully new screws).

After 40 years, a new tub drain may also be in order, but depending on the location, that can involve a great deal of work.

Best of luck to you!

You will have to change out the waste and overflow. This is not a hard job, unscrew drain from tub, remove overflow plate and disconnect from p-trap. Go to local home improvement store and buy a new waste and overflow kit, many to choose from. Reinstall .

If I understand correctly,Your basin bowl does not have an overflow passage vent. You will need to puchase a different drain, tail piece, that does not have the side vent hole.

Bathtub leakes when the drain plug is activated, no leak when not

This usually is caused by a detiorated O ring that compresses to make a watertight seal at the transistion points from them drain shoe and overflow tube to the trap adapter. However it may be the trap adapter as well. Either way the best solution is to access the tub waste from the wall behind the tub drain and replace the necessary parts. Your issue is showing up because the gallons per minute/hour rate that the tub drains is far greater than the tub valve is allowed to fill the tub. This causes a greater volume of water to fill the tub waste and as such the backpessure is greater as the entire volume of water in the trap weir must be evacuated as opposed to when the tub is not plugged and the valve is ran requiring the trap weir to evacuate gradually. Some tub wates are made of metal and may have developed holes in them but they generally form along the pathway the water uses to drain. Unfortunately the only real solution is gain access to the tub wate and replace the defective part. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Pegasus Push Button Vessel Sink Drain with overflow

Put plumbers putty around the flange that will be in contact with the sink. When you put it into the hole, try to line up the overflow as good as possible. The nut that goes onto the bottom (tailpiece) has a rubber gasket that will go between the nut & the sink. Adding some plumbers putty here won't hurt. After all is secure, just remove the putty that squeezed out from tightening.
