HP PSC 1315 Printer frozen in "deleting" mode

Sometimes my printer freezes up in the "deleting" mode and I cannot get it out of that mode to continue printing. I don't know if it's a "spooler" problem or what, but have no idea how to unfreeze it and continue printing. HELP!

Thank you for wanting to help me.

When I choose not to print a document, or when the document fails to print, I hit the "cancel all documents" in the printer window and the printer gives me the message that the document is "deleting." Sometimes it will delete the document from the Printing Que, but more often than not the message will just sit there and the document will never delete.

Eventually, and intermittently, if I restart the computer and turn the printer on and off a few times, the document will either print when I restart, or delete itself, but it is very frustrating to have to go through all those steps, with my fingers crossed, to get the problem resolved.

Sometimes I get a message that the problem is with the Printer Spooler, but I can't figure out how to stop that to see if that will allow me to delete the document.

I hope this is a little clearer.

    Thanks again,

These were very good fix suggestions. The printer is working now but I will definitely try them the next time it fails and let you know if they helped me solve the problem more quickly.

Thanks so much for your speedy and informed response.

Hi, I have a very similar problem. I got the same printer, HP PSC 1315.

When I try printing something in Word then sometimes the spooling service will either stop responding (It won't print, cancel or delete), or the spooling icon on the taskbar will refresh and flicker continuously. When I stop the spooling service (either using task manager or services.msi) the refreshing stops. It should be noted that the printer goes offline (as in it needs to be set back to online mode before you can print) after I stop the spooling service, although that's probably supposed to happen.

Like the above poster says, the problem disappears when you restart windows, during which the printer prints the documents that were spooled. I've only noticed it happen when I try printing in Word or Excel. Any advice? I'm gonna try updating my drivers. At the moment I can't find the driver's CD so I guess I'll download them.

It seems a Problem with the Print spooler.
You can try a print spooler refresh>
Go To Start> Run> And type services.msc> Ok
In the services window locate for print spooler> And bouble click on the same> It will open the print spooler property window>
Now Bellow service status you should see the Stop Tab highlighted> Click on the same (you will see a small winow popped up and it will close)
Now you will see Start Tab Highlighted> Click on start ( And you will again see a small winow popped up and it will close)
Now stop should be highlighted.
You can try this steps a couple of times untill you see STOP highlighted.

Then click on Apply or Ok and close all the windows and try if it does any better..

IF NOT YOU CAN TRY THIS.

Go to printer and faxes and right click on the printer icon and left click on properties> Go to Advanced> And here you will see ckeck mark on: Spool print documents so program finishes printing later.
Now Select: Print Directly to te printer that will uncheck Spool print documents so program finishes printing later.
Now click on apply and ok and try printing.
If it is better than keep the same settings.

If not you may have to do a complete Print spooler cleanup.

Good Luck
