Try to turn it off and quickly turn it on again in a split second.

And buy a second hard disk just in case.

I dropped my Trekstor 500GB hard drive and now it registers as a removable disk with message "please insert disk into removable disk". My computer is a Windows vista. Can the Trekstor be repaired and can I retrieve my data. Until now it worked perfectly. Paul

I just had this problem with both my external drives (I was using the same power cable and just alternating between them). I went and got drive B's power cable and they work fine now. Try replacing the power cable

WD ITB harddrive makes noise

From what you've described, it sounds like you have an external drive, rather than an internal. A clicking noise generally emplies hard drive failure, but sometimes the problem could be the actual USB cable. Have that switched and if the problem persists, try running WD's diagnostic software for any fatality. This will only work if the drive is visible in disk management (not necessarily my computer).

When the HDD was fornatted, was it formatted appropriately? It's quite possible to format a 160GB HDD to present a smaller amount of space.

Hi there,

You will need some kind of disc utility.
Open the utility with the drive connected and it should show up in the options of drives.
You should then be able to format the drive.

It should then be usable.

If not take it back to the shop..

Trekstor DataStation maxi m.u 500GB stopped working :'(

This is probably a bad sector on your hard disk. Connect it up and try this:
1. Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt.
2. Type in chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive).
