My laptop had a similar problem. I left my laptop running and some time later when I went back to my laptop, it would not startup. The power light seemed to be on but the laptop would not function. I tried several things like pressing on the power key for some time without any success and also tried all sorts of alternate buttons and sequences.

I resolved the problem by first disconnecting the power cord then by removing the battery for 5 minutes. I then re-installed the battery then connected the power adapter.

As soon as I turned the power button 'ON', the laptop booted up again.

Hope this works out for you.

Regards,
Rick

Have you tried pressing space bar (maybe its in hibernation mode) ?

or try holding power button for a few seconds (10) then turn it back on.

as a last resort you could try take the battery out, disconnect it from the power adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then place the battery back in and the power adapter and try powering it on?

The power light is on but my satellite A75-229 won't turn on. It was on last night running fine. The battery ran out because I forgot to turn it off so I plugged it in and pushed the power on button and...

Try letting the computer sit without the battery for a few minutes, and also without external power. Then try plugging in your external power WITHOUT the battery and try to start it up. If it does, add the battery while it is running. Then try it with the battery only.

Power light on, nothing happens

Try holding down the power button for several seconds. This will shut down the PC. You should then be able to reboot the system.
